Hey there,

our system has been up and running for over two years now, however since a few days no emails are being sent out. The mail queue is properly filled with invitation emails and the cronjob seems to work fine to clear the queue, but no emails are being received by the participants.
As we haven't changed any settings, I was wondering what the cause of this problem is. Ideas?

Would an upgrade to 2.2 solve this problem, even though it doesn't seem like a bug of the software?

    This is a little difficult to assess from the distance.

    1) Do emails work when registering with the system? These emails are sent directly and not via the mail queue. So this information is important in order to determine whether there is a problem with sending emails in general or just with the mail queue.
    2) Have you checked whether somebody has disabled the regular task "process mail queue" (see Options/Regular Tasks)?
    3) Did anybody disable the execution of the cron job that runs path-to-orsee/admin/cron.php?
    4) Do you see anything in your error logs (often in /var/log/apache2/error_log, unless the log file is differently specified in /etc/php.ini)?

    In general, I strongly recommend upgrading to ORSEE 2.2.0 since it fixes a lot of issues that slowly arose over time due to outdated code.

    I have had a similar issue once (although with the old ORSEE). It was caused by an invalid email address with two dots, e.g. @orsee..com . Changing the email in the participant's entry solved it.

    Edit: Sorry, I should have read the original entry more carefully. Our queue was not cleared, so it's a different issue. I'll keep the original answer up in case someone else has a problem like this.

      Problem solved:
      It was related to some misconfiguration of sendmail.
      Seems like our IT department was lenient on misconfigurations of sendmail and never bothered to check whether the email user and smtp server existed.
      So: Nothing wrong with Orsee!
