Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

I have branched off for 0.1 release. I expect to make no changes in the code other than adding tests, javadoc and log lines. bug fixing can also be done. I hope to release it by this weekend. To work on the branch, check it out. I am applying your patches and then updating the branch. Rohit Rohit Lodha oregex - Regular Expressions for Objects |

Hi, Anthony, It was great work with docs and logging. Welcome abroad the open source world. I think we should prepare to have our first release. I have made nearly all changes required for first release .So, checkout the code again. What do people, who have tuned in think we need for first release apart from the code, something like tutorials or what. I have also posted welcoming someone to contribute our logo. So get up, your creative skills may leave a mark on our product. I will be putting up one of mine out to vote, so get ready for competition:). I think we can wait till second release before we have a proper logo. About logging, I think I will need to help you Anthony a bit. perhaps write down few specs or search you few good ones. Javadocs meanwhile need to go on. Try to contribute wherever you find need to. The pattern APIs and Stream apis have stabilize much. I do not expect sharp changes in them, though few additions as we progress. Once we have our first release, we will go into stabilizing of APIs and testing. We will look into putting up advertisements too from second release. Rohit Rohit Lodha oregex - Regular Expressions for Objects |

I've done a bit of research on patches and uploaded patches to include some logging and Javadoc for the name and namedPatterns methods. Tell me what you think. Yeah, the concept of open source includes open discussion. so, unless personal we can discuss on list. This will help people who join us a easy route to update themselves. I did had a look at your file. Do not worry on going slow. First you need to learn to create patches. I have not much idea about a good tutorial on the subject, but the most common link is http://www.gnu.org/software/patch/patch.html . This might help. If you are using eclipse then u can use create patch in the team menu. I am giving you tasks which are not very critical at the moment, But I need someone to quickly come over to taking responsibility. Start with just name related methods. finally we will need doc on every method. Hi Anthony, First an update. I have assigned you the task to logging in theToDo tracker. Please also 'monitor' the particular todo task, if you are not doing so already. Upload a patch to the Pattern file after inserting logging info as well as javadoc for the name related function. I am describing name related methods of Pattern.java. PS. Make sure you start working on the last copy. Patterns can have names. This name can be set by name(String) and get by name(). To rename a already named pattern call name(null) . To get a pattern or subpatterns of name use namedPattern(name). rohit Rohit Lodha New Delhi Mobile : +91-9811713235 **************************************************************************** ************** Sign of arrogance: My opinions may have changed but not the fact that I am right. **************************************************************************** ***************** |

Hi Anthony, Patterns are the basic search definition. If you see the class implementing Pattern are all package scope and Pattern uses factory methods like exact(), or() .. to create the patterns. There is great advantage of having factory method. Tomorrow we can change the way patterns are handled, created without affecting the API. For Example: Pattern name(String name) in Pattern class This function now sets a sting private field and returns the 'this' pattern. Suppose later we would like to change the implementation of named patterns to having a list of named patterns as static Map, we can easily do so by overriding name factory method. Patterns are of 2 types : Basic Pattern and Operator Patterns. Basic Patterns are real patterns. They contain the Logic on how to apply them. They have static factory methods in the Pattern. Example: Exact Exact is a basic pattern which matches exactly the given Object with the Stream Object. This is normally equals method. Operator patterns are patterns that are made up of sub-patterns or operands. They contain the logic of carrying out the operation. They have a instance (non static) factory method. Example Or Or is a operator pattern that or's each of the composed patterns. It's apply method applies the given Stream to each operand(sub-pattern) and or's their result i.e. returns true if any one returns true. Operator patterns are of 2 types: Single and Multiple, indication number of operands. The respective Class implementations are SinglePatternWrapper and MultiplePatternWrapper. Not is a single where as or is multiple. hope this helps.
