See the FAQ -- there are several entries dealing with profiling the kernel. > FATAL: Module oprofile not found. I presume you're getting this because you have no oprofile kernel driver for your processor's architecture. You'll need to develop the code and build it, either as a module or built into the kernel. I suggest you start with chapter 1 of http://oprofile.sourceforge.net/doc/internals/index.html. You should look at how other architectures have implemented oprofile kernel drivers. Maybe you can find one similar to your architecture that you can "borrow" some code from. > FATAL: Module oprofile not found. > Kernel doesn't support oprofile > root@WSS00748:/home/intel# opcontrol --version > opcontrol: oprofile 0.9.3 compiled on Feb 25 2009 10:54:30 You'll need to add support for your new processor to the oprofile userspace package as well. You should download the latest oprofile source from cvs (http://oprofile.sourceforge.net/download/) in order to do this, assuming you'll eventually want to submit a patch here to push it upstream. For most architectures, adding processor-specific support to the userspace tool is pretty easy. For an example, see my patch for adding IBM POWER7 support, posted to this list on Apr 24. But keep in mind this is just an example since the support for IBM PowerPCs in oprofile is unique in that in includes both an events file and an events_mapping file. -Maynard > > 2.
