".Net" is just a runtime, just like the Java runtime. Just as there are multiple implementations of the Java virtual machine, there are multiple implementations of .Net. On Windows, the runtime from Microsoft is just called .Net (I think); on other platforms (like Linux), we run on Novell's mono (http://www.mono-project.com/) .Net supports multiple languages, C# being one of them. CIS is written in C#. We wrote CIS from the ground up using .Net and Gtk because .Net is cross-platform (we can run natively on Linux, for example) and using Gtk allows us to more easily translate CIS into different languages. The GNOME project also uses Gtk; this project has some screenshots of what localized Gtk applications look like: http://gnome-in.sarovar.org/localisation.html Together with the Bridge, CIS plays the same role that CPRS, the Delphi client from the VA, does. Both CIS + Bridge and CPRS communicate with the MUMPS routines on the Server using a remote procedure call (RPC) protocol over TCP/IP. I say "CIS + Bridge" because for additional flexibility, we separated out some the communications logic into the Bridge. CIS and the Bridge communicate using their own binary remoting protocol. So an end-user action (e.g., click Order) in CIS would trigger some business logic in the C# code, which makes a call to the bridge over binary remoting, which makes a call to the MUMPS Server over RPC. The Server does some logic, and may return some results back to the Bridge, which are parsed and turned into higher-level C# objects by the Bridge, which are remoted back to CIS, which presents the result to the user. If you want to know more about CIS, I'd refer you to the openvista-cis list where you can talk to the CIS developers directly. (I'm not a CIS developer, so I can only tell you so much about it.) - Jon |

Thanks jon for giving me the technical details whis is very useful . More on that in a second... > Finally OpenVista-Appliance(Executed the 'Config File' In VMPlayer) > Which gave me the CPRS. Right... so you had VMWare Player installed, which is the only thing you need to run the appliance. I'm not sure why it didn't work the first time. So to clarify... the Appliance is a self-contained VMWare image that has everything pre-installed and configured - Linux, OpenVista CIS, the OpenVista Bridge, and OpenVista Server. They're all set up to talk to each other inside of the appliance. If all you're doing is running CIS from within the appliance, you don't need anything besides VMWare installed on your host machine. Now, one of the cool things with .Net/Mono (which CIS uses) is that you can use the exact same binary that runs on Linux inside the appliance and copy it to your host machine (which presumably is running Windows) and run it. To run CIS on your host machine, you'll need the things I mentioned above - the .Net 1.1 Runtime and GtkSharp Runtime - installed on your host machine. You can then use CIS running on your host machine to connect to the OpenVista Bridge and Server running inside the appliance. You can even have CIS running on other machines on the same network connect to the OpenVista Bridge and Server running in the appliance. - Jon |

Hi jon, I have not done any major change in it but i have downloaded the whole appliance again (as you had a doubt about changes in network settings etc.). It worked for me. Can you confirm the requirement for running the appliance on my machine as i have installed: 1)Mono-1.9.1-gtksharp-2.10.4-win32-2. 2)NET Framework SDK Version 1.1 3)gtksharp-runtime-2.8.3-12 4)gtksharp-sdk-2.8.3-12 5)openvistacis-0.9.9 6)Executed the Bridge Finally OpenVista-Appliance(Executed the 'Config File' In VMPlayer) Which gave me the CPRS. Can you try running CIS from the command line? (instead of using the desktop shortcut) The command is: /opt/openvistacis/openvistacis-client Please note any errors or warnings that appear in the terminal. Also, after you launch CIS but before you connect, do you get the "message of the day"? It says something like "Welcome to a copy of the Medsphere OpenVista demo server..." in a grey box in the login dialog. Finally, has anything been changed on this copy of the appliance? (Have you changed the locale, or the network settings, etc.?) I'm going to head off to bed; it's pretty late in my timezone. I'll be back on in the morning. - Jon |

First of all thanks for the quick response. Yes copy of CIS within the appliance won't connect, when I double click on CIS a connection screen appears asking for userid/password in which there is an option field for ip(localhost)and port which is 7979,in VMPlayer screen. When I click on connect i am unable to see CPRS. The steps i took to execute appliance are follows 1)I downloaded openvista appliance. 2)Execute the appliance configuration file in the Appliance Directory Hope you can understand the issue and give some solution to it Thanks and ragards Vishal Mehrotra On Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 10:02 PM, Jonathan Tai <jo...@me...> wrote: > > The information contained in this email may be confidential and/or may be > covered under the Privacy Act, 5 USC 552(a), and/or the Health Insurance > Portability and Accountability Act (PL 104-191) and its various implementing > regulations and must be protected in accordance with those provisions.. Hi, I am trying to deploy OpenVistA solution. As part of this, I was able to execute the OpenVista-Appliance in VMPlayer. However I was not able to connect to the local set-up as mentioned in the VMApplicance documentation(readme file). As when i try to execute the OpenVista-CIS by USERID/PASSWORD - SM1234/SM1234!! After changing the ip address of appliance "127.0.0.1" (which i got from application->terminal by ifconfig-command ) with port 7979 in 'Connection Screen' , it was not able to connect without any response. Any assistance to help resolve this is highly appreciated. -Thanks Vishal |

We recently released updates to two of our core open source packages: OpenVista CIS 1.0 Beta -- For those familiar with VistA CPRS, CIS is a cross-platform (runs native-ly on Linux and Windows) C# re-engineering of CPRS. We've added a number of workflow and feature enhancements to the baseline CPRS functionality over time. This release is coordinated with CIS moving into a Beta phase at customer sites. http://medsphere.org/openvista_cis.html OpenVista Server 1.5.86 -- OpenVista Server is Medsphere's core server platform. As this group well knows, the bulk of this system comes from the VA FOIA VistA releases. Over time we have added enhancements and features as a part of our commercial OpenVista deployments. http://medsphere.org/openvista_server.html OpenVista Appliance r3 -- We have also updated our OpenVista Appliance with the latest software packages listed above. This virtual machine allows anyone to demonstrate, test and develop with the OpenVista suite. http://medsphere.org/openvista_appliance.html OpenVista Demo Server -- For those that just want to test drive the CIS product, we've now added a hosted demonstration server as well. Now anyone can download the latest CIS release and simply use this hosted server as their back-end. Please note that this server resets itself nightly for the purposes of maintaining a clean demo data set. http://medsphere.org/openvista_public_demo.html This release also brings a change to our licensing. While OpenVista Server has always been released under the GPL, the CIS product was released using a one-off license, modeled on a draft license we believed the OSI would approve in the future. As it turns out OSI did approve the license we had in mind, however after considerable internal discussions, Medsphere decided to take a different route. Our plan was to adjust our licensing just as soon as an acceptable license was certified for use and that is what we have done. The AGPL includes the criteria Medsphere feels are important and it is supported by both the FSF and OSI. We believe the AGPL is a strong open source license and one that already has an uptick in adoption and understanding by the community. To simplify licensing of our core healthcare platform we have converted both OpenVista Server and CIS to the AGPL. Hi, my name's Armin Marth and I work for an Australian medical practice software vendor, providing tech support to medical practices on the national help-desk and on-site. Recently I have been been made aware of some limitations of proprietary software, and I would like to help in anyway I can in the development of open-source in the medical industry in Australia. I have formal knowledge in IT support on Windows, training in Linux and Basic Programming and inside-out knowledge on how users (practice managers / receptionists / secretaries/ doctors) use practice management systems along with the standards and the process of dealing with Medicare Australia, Department of Veteran Affairs and Health Funds. I hope that my day to day use and contacts can help with development to be used in Australia, and I believe that now, whilst rolling out Easyclaim (Medicare EFTPOS), is the best window of opportunity for this platform to grow. Refer to the discussion from the Sydney Linux User Group (SLUG) which I've uploaded on http://www.freewebs.com/gnumed-aus I speak on behalf of myself as an individual and not as an employee of any practice management software companies for my own interests and the interests of the community. Thanks >From Armin Marth |

Hi Ben, I uninstalled Cache last night and then reinstalled. When I ran the ccontrol list, it showed that the Cache was running, but when I tried to execute cstops <instname>, it told me that the root was not authorized to run the command. DO I need to be cacheusr to run this command? How can you control what group the root falls into for Cache? On a side note, I was able to find the cache.ids file in the 'mgr' folder. Thanks, Stu Quoting "Morton, Stuart Michael" <smm...@iu...>: > Hi Ben, > > I will uninstall and try again tonight. Hi Ben, I will uninstall and try again tonight. I will also make sure to look for the cache.ids file in the 'mgr' directory under the current install to see what happened. It said it completed the install, but the csession message makes it look like it was waiting for more install steps. Stu- This appears to be a Cache setup issue. That last message looks important to me. Are all your permissions lined=20 up...?
