Hi Ben, I installed Cache on my Linux box and it started successfully after the install completed. The one snag that I am now encountering is that I cannot control the ctart, cstops, or ccontrol. It is looking for the cache.ids file, that does not exist in the listed path. I chose the minimum security during the install process. Any help is appreciated. ****************************************** ./cstart Using 'cache.cpf' configuration file Automatically configuring buffers... Hi Stu- If I understand you correctly, you've installed VMWare on a Linux box,=20 then started the OV Appliance on that box. You can connect CIS to the=20 Appliance from a remote Windows box. Excellent! You certainly can run the OpenVista Server outside of the VMWare=20 environment. That would be the normal production setup. You must first install/configure an M engine. Depending on the desired=20 platform, you have a couple of choices. You can run the=20 free/open-source M engine, GT.M=20 (http://sourceforge.net/projects/sanchez-gtm) on Linux OR you can run=20 Intersystems Cache (http://www.intersystems.com/cache/) on either=20 Windows or Linux. We provide both raw exports of the server code/data (for import into=20 GT.M) and a Cache ready "cache.dat" file of OpenVista Server. =20 Look here:=20 http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=3D74626&package_id=3D= 77362&release_id=3D489018 For GT.M, you want the "globals" and "routines" files. For Cache, you=20 want the "cache" file. The webdav file listed here is simply the=20 imaging files that accompany our demo dataset. In terms of the setup of both an M engine and then OpenVista on top of=20 that, it is not for the faint of heart. I am able to navigate with the VMWare to see the CIS, but there are points where it asks for some access codes that do not work with the sm1234! or sm1234!! Can someone please tell me what those passwords are, or weher I can find them. Also, can MySQL be used instead of Cachet as the background DB? Thanks, Stu |

(Please note the cross-posting before replying-to-all.) Many thanks to the participants at the WorldVistA conference. It was nice to see some old comrades and many, many new faces. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to co-present w/ Bhaskar and Peter on appliances/virtual machines. I received many good questions and feedback on the OpenVista Appliance and we will continue to work on improving the releases as we go forward. While we can't boast of the great download stats that Peter's appliance has garnered (1000+ downloads -- nice job Peter), the OpenVista Appliance has been downloaded just over 200 times since it was released in early May. Please send any feedback my way. As a part of our attendance at the WorldVistA Conference, Medsphere was able to release updates for two packages: - OpenVista CIS updated to: 0.9.2 - OpenVista Appliance updated to: Release 2 The release notes and download details have been updated at: http://medsphere.org/ Thanks, Ben |

=20 Hello there- The System Manager user/pass should be: sm1234/sm1234!! I don't think that's the issue though. If the values were incorrect,=20 you should see a more descriptive error message. Are the Server and CIS=20 running on separate computers? (I'm curious because you indicate you're=20 using the same port for both the RPC broker and Bridge.) Under options,=20 you've changed the server and port information to reflect how you've=20 setup the Bridge, correct? I'll see if I can find out more specifics about that error message. Aha! A specific question: On 3/3/07, JohnLeo Zimmer, MD <jlz...@cb...> wrote: Meanwhile, I would like to know how the Medsphere GPL server serves up > the nice photo that appears in their proprietary browser. That could be > useful for other purposes, no? Two things to start you off: 1) We use the existing NETWORK LOCATIONS and IMAGING SITE PARAMETERS files to support the linking of images to files. The DD is slightly modified to allow storage of a URL rather than a UNC. A few MSCGMAG RPCs were added, but we also used some existing RPCs (from the MAG* family). The intention was to use as much of the existing infrastructure as possible without requiring a VI deployment. 2) The image files (there are three types: patient photo id, administrative documents, and TIU associated documents) are stored on a network image server using the WebDAV protocol (so, essentially https). The existing server infrastructure tells the client where (root store, plus sub directory and file name) to place the file and a thumbnail is created at the time of attachment and stored with the original. Retrieval occurs over an https channel just like an image for a web page (you can view the broker calls and clearly see the URLs passed from the server). Supported filetypes are PDF, TIF, JPG, PNG, and GIF. The image store requires a user/password to both store and retrieve files. For the image store itself, we typically use Apache+WebDAV, but IIS should work as well. The system is represented as a document imaging solution. In another email, Nancy A suggests that modification of CPRS code is restricted (by someone), but if desirable a stand alone application or component could be built to call the appropriate RPCs and pull up images. I would guess a separate executable called from the Tools menu is the "easiest" way to integrate the functionality. - Ben (I'm cross-posting into the server list on SF.net for archival purposes) |

I'll see if I get it installed before you release your vmware image :) -- groeten, Jauco Noordzij |

=20 Hello Jauco and welcome- While the client should be relatively easy to get up and running, the ser= ver setup is more complicated. I can, hopefully, clear up some of the ja= rgon and architecture questions: OpenVista is based on the US Veterans Administration's VistA EHR system. T= he server runs on an M or MUMPS engine/database (in the M world, the appl= ication and database servers are one tightly bound together). There are o= nly a few choices of these servers out there... Intersystems Cache is a c= ommercial product offering, that runs on Windows, Linux and other Unix fl= avors -- a demo copy can be downloaded from their website (http://intersy= stems.com/cache/. GT.M is an open source (GPL on Linux) M engine that's a= vailable for free (http://sourceforge.net/projects/sanchez-gtm). The fil= es you're seeing under the release are a) a "cache.dat" file, used w/ Int= ersystem's product and b) raw exports of the data (called 'globals') and c= ode (called 'routines') for import into other M engines (such as GT.M). Installing and configuring these bits are quite involved and take some ge= tting used to... you've seen the various tutorials out there. Internally (at this very moment), we're building a self contained demo sy= stem as a "VMWare appliance" (http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/appliances/). T= his appliance would be preset to run OpenVista server and also have the l= atest client software installed and run-able. It sounds like you want to poke around and check the application out -- m= y suggestion would be to give us a few days to prepare this appliance and= post it. That way you could download and run everything w/out getting f= rustrated trying to configure the M engine just to poke around the applic= ation. Hope that helps, Ben -----Original Message----- From: Jauco Noordzij [mailto:sp...@ja...]=20 Sent: Thursday, March 01, 2007 12:04 PM To: ope...@li...
