The optional info in the federal form inputs identifies some fields as "first name". But the forms the info goes into are expecting "Your first name and initial."

The CA return has a separate box for the middle initial, but there is nowhere to provide that as an input (that is, you could put the initial in the first name, but it would not appear in the typographically correcct position).

These are smalll things, but my ideal approach would be to collect the middle initial separately for the federal form, and then reuse the federal info automatically on the state return. This might be a problem for people who want to use different addresses (or different spouses?) for the two forms. Multi-state filers might use different addresses for each state. But they probably have accountants anyway :)

Failing the ideal solution, labelling that matched the labelling on the forms would be good.

I can confirm this issue as I noticed it too.

Middle initials now accepted by the PA and VA forms. Will be adding to the others that need them, as you suggest.
    Thanks!

Ohio could be on that To-Do list for Middle Initials.
    Not a biggie.

Verified that Middle Initial is working for the Ohio form in 15.02. Very Nice !

Also noted that I can input the middle initial for thefederal IRS f1040 with just a space separator, in lieu of the comma, for a slightly favorable affect on the federal form, I think.
