I know that the timezone problem is a real issue. The problem is that
its not easy to fix in opensync internally (but we are working on it)

when a slow-sync is performed, opensync will drop the existing mappings
between objects and try to remap them.

If the same object (like an event) is stored very differently on the
phone (opposed to evolution) or if the phones supports less fields,
opensync might not be able to reestablish the mappings correctly. the
result is that all items are duplicated.

hmm... i looked through the specs but couldnt find any information
whether timezone information should be included in LAST-MODIFIED (the
field doesnt even seem to be in the spec). so i _guess_ that this should
be fixed in gpe (although one could also argue that editing the vcard
has taken place at a location, so the timezone information should be
included)

Hi,

the problem I have with evolution is: it crashes here (debian) as well
or it doesnt work. I tried to trace the bug, but it is definitely inside
evolution.

I heard reports that very new versions of eds and evolution work
correctly but i wasnt yet able to verify them.

this is definitely not related to the freeze (actually i finally managed
to squelch the error message).

allowLateStatus is not needed anymore (it is now enabled by default).

i uploaded some fixes to the svn lately. so maybe it works for you now.

Hi Jim,

as for the Sunbird side I can say that it should work. The SyncML plugin
has become much better in the last few weeks, so I'd say, give it a try!
It will probably not work right out of the box, but Armin is able to
help you. And when it finally works you will have helped the open source
community a lot.

Btw, as my impression is that now with SyncML quite some phones should
work already, is there somewhere an updated list?

Motorola a925 phone running Symbian v 7 and syncml
would like to sync with Mozilla Sunbird v 03a2

should I use obex or http?

If anyone can tell me if this combination is likely to work or not that 
would be a big help.

Are you building opensync for Debian using the debian/rules?
Then you have to edit the rules file to add a --datadir=\$${prefix}/share.
It should look like this:
build: configure debian/build-stamp
debian/build-stamp:
       dh_testdir
       chmod u+x configure
       chmod u+x py-compile
       [ -d $(BUILD) ] || mkdir $(BUILD)
       cd $(BUILD) && CFLAGS="$(CFLAGS)" 
$(SRC)/configure --host=$(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE) \
          --build=$(DEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE) --prefix=/usr \
          --datadir=\$${prefix}/share \
          --enable-static --enable-python=2.4

if you not building using "debian/rules"  donot forget to use this configure 
option either.

Hmm.  I just cleaned out my opensync directory, refetched from svn and tried 
to build again from scratch.  I have no problems with opensync but 
multisync-0.90 will not configure.  I am sure it worked a few weeks ago!  But 
now I get the following errors:

checking for PACKAGE... configure: error: Package requirements (glib-2.0 
opensync-1.0 osengine-1.0) were not met:
Variable 'datarootdir' not defined 
in '/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/opensync-1.0.pc'

Fortunately the fix is simple... in the top level opensync directory, edit all 
the *.pc.in files to add the following line:

datarootdir=@datarootdir@

Then make and make install.

Now when you configure multisync-0.90 it should work.

here are the logs. The error can be seen in SyncML-Thread3046960048.log.

Hi, and thanks for your response. Which revision have you build? I'm stuck 
with multisync-0.90 (revision 162) and opensync (revision 1031).

pkg-config is (and has been) installed.

Do you mean the 'autoreconf -sfi' step? It doesn't help here.
BTW, which version of autmake are you running (1.9.6 here).

I did so several times. The problem remains. 

On a further note, opensync (1031) will not build as a Debian package using 
the included debian directory. It will throw out a similar error as mentioned 
in my original message. Building it with './configure; make install' is 
successful though. 

Any other suggestions?

I did have a similar (although not identical) problem.  I got a similar error 
from ./configure and had to install (using apt-get) pkg-config.  Even after I 
had installed pkg-config I was still getting a similar error which did not go 
away until I re-ran the autogen step.  

If you think you have all the pre-requisites installed you may want to clean 
out the build directory, re-checkout the source and start again, to make sure 
you are not seeing a similar problem.

Hi,

as reported earlier, I can't build the current msyctool from SVN. Here's 
further information:

The implicit declaration of 'osync_member_need_config' seems not to be an 
issue with the opensync from SVN (I had been using libopensync0-dev from 
Debian/Sid before).

Unfortunately, msynctool won't build with the SVN version of libopensync 
either. The Here's what I get when I try building msynctool using opensync 
from SVN in the ./configure step:

checking for PACKAGE... configure: error: Package requirements (glib-2.0

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables PACKAGE_CFLAGS
and PACKAGE_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

The problem seems to be related to msynctool. I've tried using 
syncml-obex-client directly and everything was fine.

Here's the version of msynctool I'm using:

[Opensync-users] Nokia 6280 - syncml fails

Hi,

I just got my 6280 back from service. It cut calls a lot so they updated
the software for me (I just hope it helps).

I thought I tried running a test with syncml-obex-client on it.

$ ./syncml-obex-client -u
Superuser privileges are required to access complete USB information.
Found 3 USB OBEX interfaces

Use '-u interface_number' to connect

Running it as root does not show Interface description either.

If I try to run a sync the same way I do with my 6680 I get this output:

Hi 

I tried to synchronize my Nokia 6260 mobile using bluetooth and the syncml plugin.

I created a new sync profile named "a" ;)

I can connect and syncml tries to synchronize but I allways get the following error:

yes. its on my todo list. the problem is just that im very busy right
now regarding my "studienarbeit" and "hauptseminar". I hope that i will
find some time the next days to make those changes again which were lost
during the merge.

Hi Norm,

I had the same problem with evolution. I didn't want to turn off
timezones in evo completely, because then evolution would always show a
wrong time (I use UTC on my system). For me it helped to select timezone
"none" in the appointment dialog whenever I create a new calendar entry.
This is not really nice, but it seems to work for the time being.

One other thing with evolution is that whenever I have to do a slow sync
(e.g. after using a timezone) all my calendar entries are duplicated in
evolution as well as on the phone (Nokia 6630). The slow sync work fine
for my contacts though. Any ideas where this comes from?

I cannot sync my Nokia 6620 with evolution because of timezone issues.
The opensync engine doesn't seem to convert it into something nice that
Syncml likes and those records subsequently get rejected and the sync
fails.

A possible way around this might be to turn off timezones all together
in Evolution.  Is this possible?  

Ultimately, I want a PIM that works -- should I consider moving to
something else on Linux that is known to work?  

Any info would be appreciated.

I apologize for being so late. I just checked out the libsyncml
trunk and tried again with the same results.

  I did it this way ( I hope I haven't missed anything ) :

1.- I checked out syncml, autoreconf , configure, make , make install

svn co http://svn.opensync.org/libsyncml/trunk libsyncml-svn

2.- I checked out syncml-plugins, autoreconf, and so on ..

svn co http://svn.opensync.org/plugins/syncml/ syncml-plugin

Then I started syncing, it showed inconsistencies so I rebooted
the phone, I removed the files from the file-sync plugin and tried
again.

The first time it boots the phone syncs, ok. The second one
fails. The phone shows the message: "Abandoning Syncronization"
msynctool warns:
   Member 2 of type syncml-obex-client had an error while disconnecting:
   Timeout while waiting for a reply to message "DISCONNECT"
   All clients have disconnected
   The sync failed: Unable to read from one of the members
   Error synchronizing: Unable to read from one of the members

Is anybody still creating a list of recommended phone models that support s=
ynchronization using SyncML? Or can somebody provide some input in this iss=
ue?

I am interested to get Opensync working with Nokia 770 and a modern 3G phon=
e - I just don't have the phone yet. Apparently this would work nicely with=
 Nokia models like 6280 (not really available in Finland), and also some Sa=
msung phones like Z-500 support SyncML in one way or another, but how about=
 eg. the new Motorola RAZR or Samsung's Z-150 (which is advertised only wit=
h Outlook Sync)?
