Thank you Bernie, When I replay my script. It says "script completed successfully". However, in the HTML output pane, there was no web page displayed. Why did this happened? Need your help. Regards, Shakir |

OpenSTA should be capable of doing exactly what you wish. There is lots to read at opensta.org. Check out the FAQ and "getting started" pages. The one thing that I would want to prove to myself before investing a lot of time with opensta on this project is to see if it will record and playback with a network connection over a modem. I seem to remember a warning on the recording gateway configuration panel that it might not work with either VPN or modem connections. Should only take you a few hours to read the doc, install opensta, and test it to see if it works. good luck! -bernie |

Hi, I downloaded Opensta a few days back. So basically, I'm still very new to OpenSTA. I need your guidance and advise. I'm currently developing a project to measure and quantify end-user browsing experience. I'm trying to answer questions such as: What would an end-user experince when he/she goes to google.com or yahoo.com?, What are the average response time of these websites? How does access technology (i.e wireless, and ADSL) effect end-users browsing experience? To answer these questions, I've come up with a testing plan. I will borrow 10 laptops from my relatives and connect them to 10 different modems. The connection speed of the modems is at a constant 1Mbps. These 10 laptops will go to 5 popular websites ( google.com, yahoo.com & etc) every 15 minutes and measure the response time (the time it takes to fully load the page from an end-user perspective). An 11th laptop will be setup to collect data every hour or so, and properly produce a response time graph that i can analyze. My question is, can Opensta be configured to cater to such testing? or should i look for a different freeware. if so, any suggestions? Warm regards, Shakir |

Shall we mourn our dearly departed Internet ? This is probably due to a bad proxy configuration of your Web browser. sekhar raja wrote: > Hi, > > I installed the OPEN STA software and after that my internet is not working. > Please let me know any one having this kind of problem and solution ASAP. > > Thanks, > --Raj > > > > ____________________________________________________________________________________ > Take the Internet to Go: Yahoo!Go puts the Internet in your pocket: mail, news, photos & more. > http://mobile.yahoo.com/go?refer=1GNXIC > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. > Still grepping through log files to find problems? > Open STA killing internet wow, the title sure caught my attention... like opensta morphed into a worm. > I installed the OPEN STA software and after > that my internet is not working Do you mean your browser is no longer working (getting blank pages?) or your entire network connection? Could be that your proxy setting in your browser got *stuck* with pointing to the opensta gateway. If this is the case, change your browser proxy settings back to normal. |

I'm assuming you started an opensta recording and it failed to terminate properly. OpenSTA records by using a gateway. IE menu tools->InternetOptions->connections->LanSettings->Uncheck "Us a proxy server for your LAN" If you normally use a gateway to access the internet, you'll need to specify the correct gateway at this point. -bv |

Open STA alters the internet proxy settings. So change it back to the
previous settings and it should be working fine.
Hope that helps

Hi, people, I need your kindly help with OpenSTA: In the "Test Audit Log" I'm receiving the following message: E*TScript::run: ERROR in TOF execution; resuming..., It happens in the pointed code below: Load Response_Info Header on 1 & Into blob_1_0 & ,WITH "Proxy-Authenticate" -->> BUILD AUTHENTICATION BLOB & FOR NTLM & FROM BLOB blob_1_0 & INTO blob_1_0 In my searches for an answer, I've found that maybe the user authentication was not on index 1 (http://portal.opensta.org/modules.php?op=3Dmodload&name=3DphpWiki&file=3D= inde x&pagename=3DHtmlParserErrors). But I don't know how to get the information (using ~LOCATE and ~EXTRACT, as the site says to). I've also tried to insert the information manually, with no success: =09 BUILD AUTHENTICATION BLOB FOR BASIC & FROM USER "username@domain" PASSWORD "pass" & INTO blob_1_0 Or BUILD AUTHENTICATION BLOB FOR NTLM & FROM USER "username" PASSWORD "pass" DOMAIN "domain" & INTO blob_1_0 Thanks for your attention and response. Hi Amitav, Best place to start is the great documentation on line. http://opensta.org/docs/gsg/ is the getting started guide http://opensta.org/docs/sclref/ is the scripting language guide The users guide, http://opensta.org/docs/ug/, is a little out of date, but also contains some good material. There is also technical support and training available from a number of sources. Hello, on some test results not that huge (100 VUs, 3 iterations, 1h15 execution time), when I try to display "HTTP Responses v Elapsed Time", I have the following error message: TestPlugin, Insufficient Memory. The PC has around 256MB of free memory when the error happens. I use the latest version from opensta.org (1.4.3). Does anybody knows a way to allow the TestPlugin to use more memory? -- Damien |

Hello all, Has anybody figured out a work around the "out of memory" error, when trying to view the test results? I have tried deleting the stat cache files, but this has not worked for me. Please let me know if you have figured out a solution to view the test results file, after a successful test run. I saw some posts relating to this error, which talk about fixing this by using ostarepair (from trickytools). If somebody has used this tool to fix the problem, can you please share? Thanks, much appreciated. Parvinder Ghotra QA Automation Engineer |

No, but you could always sort the file's contects so that the order is
random (e.g using Excel) and then access it sequentially (NEXT command).
This is the most efficient way to do what you want. Or you could load an
array from a file and access it randomly. Or you could create a character
list and access it randomly with the generate command like this;
character*4 liststr ("a", "B", "C"), script
generate liststr
>
> I created a variable whose source type is file and marked it as "Random",

Unfortunately, you can only do sequential operations on files (using the
NEXT command) . GENERATE implies random access to a list or range.
