Hi, my first thought is that this due to session data, perhaps cookies or url-encoded session identifiers, that are not recorded... Does the generated script look like the session cookie is correctly identified and handled in the script? Cheers, Olaf |

The request contains headers that are specified by the sender, e.g. the sending script. If you need access to some cookie values, they have most likely been previously recorded from a response header. If they are not recorded they probably have already been set prior to recording... Delete all cookies for your domain-under-test before starting to record. Cheers, Olaf |

I might have got it wrong, but I would expect that all that's in the script belongs to the request-side of things. ;-) Unless you're running some local java or something application in your browser, that sets up cookies all by itself, cookies ought to be send to you at an earlier stage of the communication with the webserver. Look back in the script - cookies are identified by the URI, sometimes the top address, like www.something.xom, sometimes constrained to specific paths, like www.something.xom/admin/somewhereelse/ and your browser will always send along all the cookies that it knows, which can be identified with the URI it communicates with. I would take a wild guess that the cookies arrives earlier on, and you need to find out when. Recording does automatically (or is it an option ?) extract cookies into variables, so they are easy to find. Cheers, /Carsten :-) -----Original Message----- From: ope...@li... Hi Dev, when recording the application 'sees' the opensta nameserver. It might cause the trouble if you're dealing with https-requests, which is usually the case when logging in. Check if you're starting out with http, and then change to https while logging in. I suggest you download the Fiddler (google for it) plugin for IE and use it while recording and while not recording, then compare what happens. Good luck, /Carsten :-) |

I was wondering if anyone else has seen this problem:
My Environment
---------------------------
Browser (IE 6.0) and Web Server live on the internal company intranet.
Some requests go to external source, outside of the intranet (reporting).
So my IE Browser has a proxy server configured, and a bunch of addresses in
the "Do not use proxy server for addresses beginning with:".
I'm using OpenSTA 1.4.4
My Problem.
----------------------
I can browse my Web Server inside the intranet fine, and the requests are
sent and fulfilled by the external source fine, it's all lovely.
However, when I try to record the script through the modeler I get an error
from the proxy server. According to the settings in IE, the request
shouldn't be going to the proxy server. I confirmed the settings in
OpenSTA ("Options -> Gateway") so I know that OpenSTA has read the settings
from IE correctly. Everything looks good to me, it looks like the request
should go straight to the webserver and not the proxy server.
When I recorded the script in 1.4.3. using all the same equipment it worked
perfectly, so this problem seems related to v1.4.4.
The interesting thing is that I can see that the 1.4.4 script starts with
this:
Start Timer T_MYTIMER
CONNECT TO "proxy.example.domain.com:8080" ON 1
So the very first thing the script does it connect to the proxy server,
even though my request should not be sent there. The 1.4.3 script only has
this "CONNECT " command when it actually sent stuff to the external source.
I've tried recoding using HTTP 1.0 and 1.1, the only thing I could think
would make a difference, and neither of them work, they boh result in the
CONNECT command at the top of the script and the error message from the
proxy server.
I looked at the release note on sourceforge and can't see anything related
to this changing in 1.4.4.
Does anyone know if this area of code changed in 1.4.4? Is this a known
issue in 1.4.4? Does it sounds like an issue or a user problem (I can't
think what I'm missing but happy to be told I did something stupid)?
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Hi All,
I=92ve been troubled a lot by opensta suddenly giving me a double=A0 { =
in the
URLs. Why this happens is unknown to me, but it comes in these two
varieties:
a. recording a script which requires several redirects, all https. At a
specific point the redirect comes back as:
Location:http://{{server.domain.xx/blablabla....
b. playing back a recorded script, where all references goes as =
https://...
=A0When following the redirects again this may come back as above.
Now, handling b) is fairly simple: just check if the URL-string begins =
with
http://{{ and if so, exchange that with https://...=A0=20
Handling a) is more complicated.
I solved it this way (just in case anybody else drops into this trap =
hole):
Install Fiddler (google will be your friend). It=92s an addon for IE.
Prepare for recording a script in opensta =96 but don=92t press =
=91record=92 just
yet.
Start a browser manually. It will have a button for Fiddler. Press that =
and
await Fiddler to fully launch.
Now go back and record. A new browser opens (with browser I mean IE6), =
and
you can work normally up=20
to the point where you are about to encounter the {{-problem.=20
Then switch to fiddler, and set up a rule breakpoint before requests.
Now continue recording. You=92ll need to approve everything in Fiddler, =
before
it=92s sent, which is tedious. However,
when the culprit request occurs, press =91break on response=92 and =
correct the
response header Location-entry.
(how you do this in Fiddler is pretty simple, so I will not explain in
detail how it=92s done. However, to get you going: rules are in the =
menu, and
you need to see the header-tabs. Editing is done by rightclicking).
Continue with the rule on, until you think it=92s allright, or you=92ve =
got
enough recorded.
Question is though: why does this happen ? Have anybody else this =
problem ?
=A0Have we got a bug in openSTA, as I suspect, as I don=92t think any =
other
piece of software will start putting in extra { in the URLs.. ;-)
I should note that this is encountered on windows XP / windows server + =
IE6.
Another interesting observation is, that I once ran a script that worked
splendidly. 1 hour later I ran a similar, but slightly different script. =
It
failed. I checked that the first script could run, to figure out the
difference.. now it didn=92t. It could be traced down to the b) =
situation. No
configurations where changed in the midtime. Strange..
I didn=92t have this problem all last year, it has only started this =
year. Any
clues ?
Cheers,
/Carsten :-)

The effect of this is to create a proxy loop - the Gateway uses the existing proxy to be the proxy it will pass the traffic on to. So effectively it passes the same traffic on to itself. Unless you have a real proxy you want to pass onto you should not have a proxy set up in your browser if you are using the automatic recording mechanism (where the Modeler starts the browser). I would also suggest not trying to record and test any Web site running on the same machine as OpenSTA unless you absolutely cannot avoid it - there are just too many things that can go wrong and casue confusion, so you are asking for trouble. Correction.. "... However, in a non-clustered env.." - This should be CLUSTERED env, where the problem occurs. We don't have any problem recording and running scripts in the non-clustered env. Only in the clustered one, where we must perform load testing. |

Hello. We use OpenSTA v 1.4.4. We have 2 test environments: 1. Non-clustered, and using NTLM 2. Clustered, and using Kerberos (Negotiate) - where load testing will be conducted All web servers are Windows 2003 Server. In the non-clustered env, we could record successfully. We need to manually edit the script, though, for the NTLM change-response authentication. But the script works, no problem with that. However, in a non-clustered env, we get the 401 Unauthorized status most of the time during the recording of the scripts. And afterwards, we would also be getting this when we access the web app using just the browser (without OpenSTA recording). After leaving the machine idle for a few minutes, it returns back to normal. We could actually record successfully sometimes. But most of the time, it's unsuccessful. Nevertheless, a complete script usually gets the Unauthorized status when ran. So we can't proceed with our load testing because we're not sure if the error is caused by incorrect scripting or by OpenSTA itself. Does any of you know why this happens? Is this because of the clustering or the Kerberos? Or both? Regards, Gary Concepcion |

Hi Ellinor, The first error (Source Line is Too Long) may come from the line length restriction in OpenSTA scripts. Sometimes recording a script will record a line that is too long. Fix Line 23 as in the following example: "this is an OpenSta source line that is too long." becomes "this is an OpenSta source line" & " that is too long." Simply break the line up in the middle, and add an & character after the first line. If you break the line in the middle of a string (like in the example), also add a " character to the end of the first line and start the next line with a " character. Hi Olivier, I wish I had something more to offer you but I believe there is something unique about your PC that is causing problems. I encourage you to try another computer, preferably one with a clean windows install (2003 or XP Pro SP2) with IE6. Hi again Mr. Velivis, I am really glad of your support. This is well appreciated. First, just to be clear, I am having problem with the gateway initialization before browsing any pages (I did not do any recording). So it won't be useful to give you a page that I want to record. I tried all of your ideas (I tried IE6, I tried changing the registry, turning off anti-phishing, and changing the MaxUserPort registry) and there were no good result. Also, I am not going through a gateway to access the Internet. Hope this will help, Olivier ----------------------------------------------------------- Hi Olivier, This is the first time I have seen a 10048 error during recording. This error is common during playback and a solubtion is described here http://portal.opensta.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&pagename=Playb ackAddressInUse&file=index Please read the above and try increasing MaxUserPort in the registry. I doubt the gateway reads the TExecuter_web.ini file, but you can try making the changes for linger and reuseadr specified by the URL I asked you to read. A few other things; 1) Is the URL private or is it available over the internet? (If I can experience the error myself, it might give me some inspiration. Fee free to email me privately with the URL if it can be reached via the internet.) 2) How many pages do you visit before the error occurs during recording? If it does not happen on the first page, what happens if you stop the recording before the failure? Is a script generated? 3) Can you reproduce this with IE6? 4) Do you normally go through a gateway (not OpenSTA's gateway) to access the web site? 5) Does turning off IE7's anti-phishing features help? Hi again, Mr. Velvilis, and thank you for your reply. To be more precise, I am using Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2 and IE7. Also, I installed it on another computer (with admin privs) so I am sure it is not an installation problem. Moreover, the error with the gateway cannot be made from a problem of shutting it down because it happened on the first time, so I it never opened right. Finally, to give you a better idea of the gateway problem, I runned gateway.exe through a console and it gave me that log: Initialize the gateway... Close listener on <10.10.11.1:7208>. !! WSAEADDRINUSE, Address already in use., Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/IP address/port) is normally permitted. This error occurs if an application attempts to bind a socket to an I P address/port that has already been used for an existing socket, or a socket th at wasn't closed properly, or one that is still in the process of closing. For s erver applications that need to bind multiple sockets to the same port number, c onsider using setsockopt(SO_REUSEADDR). Client applications usually need not cal l bind at all - connectwill choose an unused port automatically. ,< F:\OpenSTA\Builds\cvs-rw\ostaw32\src\Architecture\CyrToolsOS\socket.cpp/832> ,100 48 newTask: new task's initialization failed.,<F:\OpenSTA\Builds\cvs-rw\ostaw32\src \http\HttpGateway\gateway\gateway.cpp/478>4265615 So thanks again for your help, Olivier ------------------------------- Olivier , Based on prior questions of the same nature, It is likely that gateway is not gracefully shutting down when you stop recording. So when you try to start another recording, you get the init error. I trust you are not using Vista. IE7 is know to not work with HTTPS recording. IE7 can also try to open HTTPS links when trying to do "anti-phishing" stuff which causes problems. If on Vista, try XP or Win 2003. If IE6 is an option, try that ... OpenSTA 1.4.4, IE6, and Win 2003 or XP Pro are a proven stable combination. Lastly, something might have gotten trashed in the install. Be sure you have admin privs both to install and run OpenSTA. To re-install, run the .msi file, and select remove. Reboot. Run the .msi and select install. Reboot. Try a fresh recording, using IE6 if possilbe. Olivier , Based on prior questions of the same nature, It is likely that gateway is not gracefully shutting down when you stop recording. Jari, You need to drag and drop the collector onto a new task group (e.g drop on the cell row 2, column "Task 1") in your test to create a task group dedicated to running the collector. Once you have done this, click on the "start" column of the new task group and assign values for "start task group" (usually immediately) and the stop time (set to the duration of your test). Tests that include a collector typically have a minimum of two task groups, one to run the script(s) and one to run the collector. Hi, I've created an SNMP collector as documented in OpenSTA 1.4.4.11 Help file. But however, I didn't find any documentation how to connect the SNMP collector to certain Test run. So I assumed that the collect makes it's job all the time while some Test run is undergoing. But seems that this is not correct, because no "Custom NT" or "Custom SNMP" created in Test Pane as mentioned in the help file. So, what went wrong? As far I know, there is very few documentation about the SNMP in OpenSTA. I have checked, that SNMP works fine in my Linux Server or from my OpenSTA workstation. I can even browse the MIB tree using the Collector Query Editor in Commander. My workstation is XPPro SP2. Thanks, Jari |

> When I replay my script. It says "script completed successfully". > However, in the HTML output pane, there was no web page displayed. Why > did this happened? OpenSTA does not display rendered html during playback. With the prior version (1.4.3) there is an add-on called Bview (http://portal.opensta.org/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=42) which adds the capability, but as far as I know it is not available for version 1.4.4. Read about verifying results to see how this can be done with OpenSTA (http://portal.opensta.org/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=40) All the best, Bernie Velivis Performax Inc (www.iPerformax.com) 2 Colburn Lane, Hollis, NH 03049, 603.860.7900 Need rapid response OpenSTA support and bug fixes?
