    Hi
would you please provide some more information

    • what system are you running this on? (e.g. Linux Mint 22.2; Cinnamon)
    • is it a new installation with all configuration as it came with the installer?
    • what version of OpenSong is it? Did you download it from SourceForge or from somewhere else, or did you compile it from source?
    • what language did you choose in OpenSong?

I would guess this is either an incompatibility between the Xojo framework used by your version of OpenSong and your system, or an incompatibility between OpenSong and your desktop flavor, version , setup ,or theme. We will likely have to be able to reproduce the error in order help.

    Hello,

I’m encountering an issue on several Linux distributions, particularly Debian 13, where OpenSong is no longer working correctly. This is due to the use of outdated dependencies that have been removed in recent versions of these Linux distributions. As a result, the application can no longer launch or function properly.

The problem seems to stem from OpenSong relying on libraries that are no longer available in the repositories of recent Linux versions. This kind of incompatibility is becoming more problematic, especially with the removal of these dependencies in Debian 13.

Do you have any information about an updated version of OpenSong, such as OpenSong 4.0, that could address this issue? It’s becoming urgent to have a version compatible with newer Linux distributions, especially to replace Windows 10.

Thank you very much for your help and insights!

Does your issue manifest itself with the kind of error messages the thread starter gets?

Relating your issue, please check out #356 Linux deb libwebkit2gtk dependency

We are currently in the process of testing the current development version on different systems in preparation for a new release. Linux is causing a lot of trouble. Each Window manager, compositor, desktop, theme causes things to fail in yet another way ...

        Hello,

Thank you very much for your answer and for the link to issue #356.
Yes, my issue is indeed related to the missing libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 dependency on newer Debian releases (like Debian 13). The .deb package of OpenSong 3.4.8 can’t be configured anymore because these libraries were completely removed from the official repositories.

It’s great to hear that you’re currently testing a new development version — that’s really encouraging!
As a suggestion, once the new build is ready, it might be helpful to publish it not only as a .deb package but also as a Flatpak, AppImage, or ideally by adding OpenSong to an APT repository (so users could simply run sudo apt install opensong). That would make installation and updates much easier across different Linux distributions.

Thanks again for your work and for keeping OpenSong alive on Linux!
Looking forward to testing the upcoming version.

        Best regards
