Is there any way to print an actual underscore to a slide? I tried escaping and quoting the character, but it is always ignored.

If this is not possible, is there another character I can use that looks similar?

Sorry, I just saw after posting this that I can do this on Slide items. Is it possible to do on Song items, as well?

The best suggestion that I have for you with the current OpenSong is to use a similar character from the Unicode characters. The code filters the exact underscore character (ASCII code 95), not the general character type.

I'd suggest either the "Fullwidth Low Line" character (Hexidecimal FF3F in the Unicode set, _) or the "Double Low Line" (Hexidecimal 2017, ‗).

If you are on Windows, you enter the first by typing in the hex digits for the character (FF3F in the case of the first one) and then press ALT+X. For the Mac, you need to have System Preferences/Keyboard/Input Sources/Show Input in Menu Bar checked, then you can use the Show Emoji & Symbols from the Menu Bar item to search by the character's name. There are alternatives to make this easier on both platforms, for example, I use PopChar on the Mac and WinCompose on Windows.

Hi, as Ed said, the underscore character is consumed internally by OpenSong. It is used with chords to align the words to the chords without splitting words in two. For consistency, it is removed whether or not you actually are using chords in a particular song.

There is no way to quote any characters with special meaning in Opensong.

I'd be interessted in learning, why you would want to have the underscode character display in lyrics text. Is it valid punctuation in any language? Or what else did you try to achive using it?

Hi, Ed and SvA. Thank you for the feedback and suggestions. I did look into using some other characters that look like underscores but couldn't figure out how to enter them into OpenSong at the time. I'll try one of the two low lines if I need to in the future.

As far as why, we use OpenSong for all parts of our Sunday service, so most of our non-lyric items are also songs. This includes things like sermon slides, announcements, etc. I was trying to put a social media account name in our Announcements, but the underscore in the name disappeared when presenting. As alluded to above, I moved to using a Slide item instead of a Song, and that did what I wanted.
