OK ... can we have some discussion about adding songs on the fly (while
showing)? This is specifically to those who can develop the software. What
wold it take to expand the "Alert" or adapt "Add Song" to enable one to edit
or even create new songs while presenting. There have been a good amount of
requests for this over the years. It would simplify the process if the new
songs created while presenting use the default slide formatting. I (and all
the worship leaders at our house of prayer) are willing to test whatever you
want to throw at us. So writers tell me what you think.

I think I've found a simple "back-door" way of doing exactly what we're
    wishing for ...

As I read your post (and nodding my head vigorously in agreement), I started
thinking about how they might be able to implement this... I was thinking _why
couldn't the "Slide Editor" be accessible from the Presentation Helper, just
like "Add Song" or "Scripture" _ (I've never looked at the source-code for
Opensong, and have no clue how complicated that would be).. but - that's when
    it hit me:

After launching your presentation, open a second copy of OpenSong. You can
create new songs and save them with the second copy - just like you would any
other time. Then - go back to the Presentation-Helper screen for the set
that's being projected, and click "Add Song". The song you just saved will
appear in your songs list - and can be added to the presentation, just like
any other song that was already in your library.

(It would still be a HUGE plus to have this capability built-in, but at-least
we've got an alternative until it happens.)

PS... If you need to edit a song that's already in the set. You can also do so
with a second copy of O/S, as above, then ADD it to your live set as a new
song. Not quite as neat as being able to edit within the set - but again, it's
a work-around that might be useful.

OK, it's been forever since I replied to this idea but another worship leader
at our house of prayer brought up the need to edit and create "on the fly"
yesterday. In response to "fixit-daddy:" Multiple copies of Opensong is
confusing even for those of us who train people to use the program. (I have
been training churches and worship leaders to use it for some years now.) I
agree that accessing the song edit window while presenting would be great.
Even if one could access a simplified "slides" window that saves to a
temporary folder and then can be added to the database later if you choose
would be great. I just don't have RealBasic so I cannot comment on how
difficult this would be. Can any of you developers comment? Is editing/adding
songs and slides on the fly possible? What would it take?

Fixit-daddy is right, on the fly ediiting is not possible. On the fly adding
of songs is, just add a song in the presenter helper window.
It is possible to add the feature of on the fly ediiting to OpenSong, but it
is not simple. This is because the song editor is embedded in the main
OpenSong screen. Interacting with the main screen during presentation is
possible, but it will be a pack of ugliness. A decent approach takes
significant effort as it requires structural rework to the main application
    organisation.

Is it possible to embed the song editor in the 'Add Song' window of the
Presentation Helper using a tab. That way there would be two tabs, one for
adding songs and the other for editing songs
. The name of the option could be
changed from "Add Song" to "Add/Edit Song". The embedded editor could
use the database of songs located in the OpenSong "Songs" folder.

As for the options that will be available in the secondary editor, I
don't think there'll be any need for the "Export" option.

    @vwout

Actually, the on-the-fly editing would be fairly simple to incorporate in the
current interface. I have been presenting

songs and in the middle of the song there was a typo. I had to close the
entire presentation and go fix it and re-launch

the whole thing again, and by that time, we have already passed that verse on
the song. I say, that we add a mini text

editing spot right down there in that little text box in the Presentation
Helper. Even though this is an old screenshot,

you can still see the box in it:

It would just have to show the formatting. And maybe, it should not change
immediately, but it should apply the next time

you go to that slide, so it doesn't draw attention to the word while you are
fixing the words... if that is poossible. But

immediately would be nice if you had to do it that way. :P

This is offtopic, actually. But I don't understand the issue. Please contact
me directly, or write a more elaborate problem description in the bug tracker.

in the options ADVANCED helvetica 60) - I click Q key (add song) - program
