We're pleased to announce the release of version 2.0.0 of OpenSLP. You'll find in the 2.0.0/2.0.0 Release folder in the download area the usual source distribution and doxygen tarballs, plus x86 and x64 releases of Windows msi installers.

We're happy to announce the beta 2 release of openslp 2.0.

Changes primarily include bug fixes to the beta 1 release.

We've made a win32 msi installer available for the openslp 2.0 beta 1 package. This binary installation package has all SLP v2 features enabled except for the security feature, which relies on OpenSSL.

It's been a long time, but we finally feel that the 2.0 code base is beta-ready. We've tested this code on Linux, Solaris, and AIX versions to our satisfaction. There's a little cleanup left to do, but the main code base is looking good. In addition, the --enable-slpv2-security and --enable-async-api configure options now work cleanly.

The first alpha release of OpenSLP 2.0.0 has been released. This package is available only in source form as a tar.gz file. Please try it out - build it, install it and let us know what's wrong!

This release incorporates bug fixed from the SuSE distribution patch set. It also updates the autotools scripts to 1.5+. A solution file with projects were added for MSVC 7.1, as well. This release has been test compiled on several platforms on the sourceforge compile farm, including SPARC, AMD64, X86, and PPC.

The new release incorporates the development that took place in the 1.1 branch.

OpenSLP-1.0.4 fixes some important bugs. It is highly recommended that all OpenSLP users upgrade to this release.

The OpenSLP project is an effort to develop an open-source implementation of Service Location Protocol suitable for commercial and non-commercial application.

The latest stable version of OpenSLP is 1.0.3. OpenSLP-1.0.3 fixes a few minor bugs.. The following is a shortened list changes for 1.0.3:

- Fixed several bugs that were resulting in messagage being send that contained 2-6 bytes of trailing garbage. The garbage was disrupting interoperability with other implementations most notably the Netware 6 DA Special thanks to Timothy Zurcher for debugging this problem.... read more

It has been about 18 months since the start of the OpenSLP project and we are finally releasing the first version of a 1.0.x stable branch. Thank you for the development, patching and testing effort that have helped us get this far.

OpenSLP 0.9.1 is a bug fix release. It does not offer any new features, but since some the fixed bugs were fairly serious it highly recommended that 0.9.0 users upgrade.

- slpd now does a graceful shutdown on SIGTERM to deregister serviced with DAs
- Considerable time spent using commercial debugging tools to remove ALL memory leaks from slpd (without predicates) and libslp.
- IPC (via loopback) is now used by libslp to obtain DA information from slpd before multicasting
- slpd running as a DA now sends passive DAAdverts
- slpd running as an SA now performs active DA discovery
- slpd running as an SA now re-registers all services with new DAs
- Significant fixes were made to make slpd work properly on multi-homed machines ... read more

For those of you that are interested in using OpenSLP on Windows. Please read the README.W32 file that is included in the distribution for extra Win32 build and install instructions.

Be aware that the libslp minor version was updated because of the code that was added to support SLPFindSrvTypes(). The additional code should probably not cause any dynamic linking problems as the libslp interface has not changed. ... read more

For several reasons, a public release of 0.7.3 will not be made available. Instead, all changes have been rolled into 0.7.4. Please be aware that in order to include the DA communication enhancements (detailed in the NEWS
file) it was necessary to modify a good portion of the networking code. This new code is not as mature as the 0.7.2 code. Also, a fair amount of work was done to simplify internal data structures to make way for future enhancements. It is expected that some users may just want to stick with
0.7.2 release unless the new DA features are important. Be aware also that there are a few DA communication issues that are not fully resolved (like re-registration of existing services with a newly discovered DA)... read more

OpenSLP 0.7.2 contains several important bug fixes, framework changes (that will continued through 1.0 release), and portability changes. OpenSLP now works on OpenSLP ported to Solaris (2.6/7), Linux Alpha, Compaq Tru64. Building is now possible on non-gcc compilers.

As far as enhancements go OpenSLP release 0.7.1 just slightly more stable release of 0.7.0. Several bug fixes (that kept 0.7.0 from working in some cases) have been added. For developers, OpenSLP 0.7.1 introduces a new make file system that uses automake/autoconf... one step closer to our goal of makeing OpenSLP easier to port and maintain.... read more

OpenSLP release 0.7.0 contains significant code changes from the original is based on the original Caldera Systems source code snapshot from April. Additional features (such as DA support in the library and configuration enhancements have been added, but most of the changes to the code were made to tighty things up in order to (hopefully) make OpenSLP easier to port and maintain.

The OpenSLP library is nearly complete (about 90%) which means that for a few exceptions, it will change very little in the next major releases (0.8.x, 0.9.x and 1.0.x). The OpenSLP daemon, on the other hand is only about 60% complete. Look for major feature enhancement to slpd in the future. ... read more

OpenSLP 0.6.7 now includes support for the following:

Minimal DA support in libslp. Apps linked with libslp will talk to DAs if the net.slp.DAAddresses property is set in the host's slp.conf file.

Broadcast is supported. Set the net.slp.isBroadcastOnly = true in the host's slp.conf file.

Full DA support, dynamic DA discovery and DA functionality for slpd (ability to propagate registrations to DAs) is scheduled for 0.6.8. ... read more
