Dear Panos, It is nice to see that the list is finally getting some movement. =20 Panos check my comments bellow. =20 Best regards, =20 Carlos Serr=E3o (MSc.) It is a very crucial point in interoperability terms. With VLC you don=92t need any other =96 it also = supports DVD movies and so on=85 I think that VLC is (in my opinion) our best = choice! =20 Or the player should be preinstalled in order to open up as integrated = when an appropriate stream encountered ? [Carlos Serrao] The player should be already on the system, if possible = =96 at least it should be a requirement in order to access to DRM-protected content. =20 Is then chicken and egg? [Carlos Serrao] Don=92t think so. =20 Can MS Media Player hijack an integrated player and play the content = instead (of course no protection applies in these cases) ? [Carlos Serrao] Sure it can, if you give permissions for that. Windows = Media Player is automatically configured to take over some of the more = well-known content formats. But you can override this. And remember that for = Europe, Microsoft in now obligated to supply a version of Windows XP without the Windows Media Player (I think this is called Windows XP N ???). =20 From our own experience, since we have done this to the Zinf player and = MP3, protecting and integrating the protection on the player is not an easy = task =96 that=92s why this is a task that needs a good knowledge of the = content formats and C/C++ programming. I also think that our strategy should be = as much as possible to preserve the content format, and only protected the content data. For instance, in the case of MP3, we have only ciphered = the audio data, maintaining the MP3 file structure. =20 Carlos who is currently on this reflector ? [Carlos Serrao] All the developers that are subscribed at opensdrm at sourceforce and you. =20 Regards Panos =20 =20 =20 =20 =20 ----- Original Message -----=20 From: Gregor Siegert <mailto:gre...@av...> =20 To: Carlos Serrao <mailto:car...@is...> ; OpenSDRM. For the future I think the following factors are key to the = success of the system; =20 - Openness to as many content formats as possible - Openness to as many content rendering devices (players/viewers) as possible - Easy extendibility & good documentation =20 Having worked on the original architecture I have the following areas I would like to contribute: =20 - Server platform enhancement, security of the SOAP/XML interfaces = between the servers - Cleaning up the code =20 I am also interested in integrating another player with the system = Videolan VLC may be an interesting candidate. =20 =20 Please use my Lycos address for any future emails: mr...@ly... =20 Kind Regards, Gregor =20 _____ =20 From: ope...@li... Based on this list I would like to know if = you are interested in working on any of the specific tasks I have identified = =96 I hope so.
