I just downloaded Piklab and compiled but it doesn't support
Openprogrammer yet. Can one expect that that in the near future Piklab has support for Openprogrammer?

I would say the chances are minimal.
After many requests also from you the lead developer started some work, but tried to use the programmer as a serial port, missing the real advantage of packet communication and not using 80% of the work already done, which is the collection of programming algorithms already verified on the programmer.
The integration never worked (never had a chance to) and all the work has stopped since.
I once tried to integrate the routines, but was not even able to understand the structure of the software: it's incredibly complex, way too much for me since I am not a professional programmer.
I guess we should first find someone that can understand piklab sources.
