Hard to tell, only basic chip erase and write commands are implemented; flash chips, especially large ones, often have memory segments and additional status registers with features like OTP or fancy protection mechanisms.
In principle a new chip should give no trouble; an already configured one may block some areas.
But I have never tried, I don't have such a device.
Anyways, since only basic SPI (and at low speed, no dual or quad mode) is used, total read or write times will likely be high: potentially minutes, maybe an hour.
