Hardware and Software documentation for a new wearable modular multichannel wireless and open source fNIRS instrument.
functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy is a comparatively new instrumentation technique for non-invasive optical measurements of local brain activity (metabolism) and is used in various fields in medical and research applications - such as in BCI.
Based on the current state of technology, using a continuous wave method and lock-in
amplification, the instrument is designed for new level scalable mobile brain activity
measurements. Using batteries as energy source with low power hardware components
enables both user mobility and safety. A new modular spring loaded fNIRS instrumentation
approach allows direct application and fixation of the fNIRS measurement module to the head.
In this project, the system concept, hardware, software and mechanical implementation of
the instrument are explicated and files are made avaliable for personal and scientific use.
