Super Seismic Shock

Problem

  • Shock wave propagation causes deformation of and shock wave in solid
  • Shock in a compressible fluid travels at a speed that exceeds the dilational wave speed in a solid
  • Solid material properties are similar to copper
  • Fluid material properties are modified to get a sound speed similar to the dilational wave speed
  • Deformation of the solid is due to high pressures behind the shock
  • Analytical similarity solution exists
