Hi oMers., I do not know if this is a already a know bug, but one of my friends show me today following problem. On kernel 2.4.25 as well as 2.4.27 starting process allocates some memory. After stopping the process the freed memory is smaller then allocated. App. 12 k. For example: 192:~# while :; do free; sleep 1; done total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 497804 434864 62940 0 0 291940 -/+ buffers/cache: 142924 354880 Swap: 0 0 0 total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 497804 434872 62932 0 0 291940 -/+ buffers/cache: 142932 354872 Swap: 0 0 0 total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 497804 434880 62924 0 0 291940 -/+ buffers/cache: 142940 354864 Swap: 0 0 0 total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 497804 434888 62916 0 0 291940 -/+ buffers/cache: 142948 354856 Swap: 0 0 0 total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 497804 434896 62908 0 0 291940 -/+ buffers/cache: 142956 354848 Swap: 0 0 0 At the and of the day node crash. If I do the same on my old good 2.4.20 resulst is: jozef@clue24:/$ while :; do free; sleep 1; done total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 2582180 184900 2397280 0 1968 113068 -/+ buffers/cache: 69864 2512316 Swap: 1960552 0 1960552 total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 2582180 184900 2397280 0 1968 113068 -/+ buffers/cache: 69864 2512316 Swap: 1960552 0 1960552 total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 2582180 184900 2397280 0 1968 113068 -/+ buffers/cache: 69864 2512316 Swap: 1960552 0 1960552 total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 2582180 184900 2397280 0 1968 113068 -/+ buffers/cache: 69864 2512316 Swap: 1960552 0 1960552 So no memory is lost. Is it feature or bug? :) Or something discussed here some weeks ago and I just did not read it? :( thanks Jozef ************************************************ Jozef Ivanecky IBM Speech Systems European Speech Research Gottlieb-Deimlerstr. 12, D-68165 Mannheim Email: iva...@de... ************************************************ |
