utf-8 encoded characters beyond 0xFFFF are not being parsed correctly.

For a quick look try parsing this minimal XHTML example:
http://math.albany.edu/pers/hammond/sg/fraeuRaw.xhtml

Detailed problem description is in the attached file "bug090702".
