Hi, I have a new Win32 build at http://opengrads.org/pre-rel/win32/grads-1.9.0-rc.win32_superpack.exe that I hope fixes several of the issues some of you have reported: 1) Xmin should now start automatically (meaning some of the mods I made could solve this problem that some of you had). 2) The "!" command in grads should work 3) The "^" as in "DSET ^filename" in ctl files should work now 4) Other niceties: Setup.exe type of installation, PATH is now set automatically, can be uninstalled from control pannel. A main change is that the suggested default installation directory is "C:\GrADS19", so that v2 could later be installed under C:\GrADS20. I plan to post this new build on sf.net in the next couple of days, unless I hear from you of major problems. BTW, despite the Setup.exe installation, the whole package should still be relocatable to mem stick or whatever. Let me know of any problems. Thank you, Arlindo -- Arlindo da Silva da...@al... |

Hi Arlindo, I was able to uninstall the previous version (one without gex files), no problem, then installed the updated version (rc1, not rc; assume it doesn't matter since they were the same size and date stamp). It started without a hitch and was able to use gxyat, re, etc. although I'm brand new to those utilities. I'm also looking forward to your response on the read-file issue I mentioned the other day (Feb 22nd, subject "Re: Win32 Binaries in v1.9.0-rc1"). Although I've never used Python, down the road I may download the newly available pygrads you mentioned. Thanks for making it and the grads19 available for win32 users! Dear Mr Arlindo, Thank you. The outcome of my testing your grads-1.9.0-rc.win32_superpack.exe is as follows:- (1) as compared with you zip package, I have to select grads classic or grads netCDF-3 or netCDF-4 in order to run .grb or .nc file appropriately. [In your zip package, I just type grads in the command window and run either .grb or .nc file easily.] (2) q udft shows no listing of the table at all. (3) your gex folder in win32 is empty. (4) when I run your utFish.gs, 'psi', 'chi', 'fish' are shown as not a variable or function name. (5) when I tried you re() function, re is shown to be not a variable or function name. Also, gxyat is an unknown command. Lastly, yesterday I emailed you that I am puzzled by the streamfunction output by using fish(). The pattern, as compared with an example from an article, looks similar but the signs and magnitudes are vastly different. I am pleased to reproduce below my email text with the attached example for your consideration and help. -------------------------------- Dear Mr Arlindo da Silva, For days, I have been puzzled by the output of streamfunction using your fish() in the GrADS v1.9.0-rc1 (windows). By chance, I happened to see a 700 hPa streamfunction example in an article on Afican Easterly Wave. I used the NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis data to reproduce the example shown. As shown in my attachment, you can notice the followings:- (1) Both patterns look similar. (2) The signs and magnitudes of streamfunction generated from GrADS are vastly different from those in the example figure. (3) In the GrADS generated example, values west of 0 degree longitude are absent. Where did I go wrong ? Please help. ------------------------ Thank you and best regards. The "GrADS 1.9" menu under [Start]/[All Programs] is just an extra convenience. > > (2) q udft shows no listing of the table at all. > (3) your gex folder in win32 is empty. > (4) when I run your utFish.gs, 'psi', 'chi', > 'fish' are shown as not a variable or function name. > (5) when I tried you re() function, re is shown to > be not a variable or function name. All, I have my first win32 build of GrADS v2. The packaging is similar to what I had done for v1.9.0-rc1, with both a self installing .exe and a .zip file. These can be found here: http://opengrads.org/devel/grads2/grads-2.0.a3.oga.1.win32_superpack.exe http://opengrads.org/devel/grads2/grads-2.0.a3.oga.1.win32_superpack.zip If you have a chance to try it out, please let me know if it works. These are supposed to be relocatable. Because v2 does not support it yet, there are no extensions included. Thank you, Arlindo -- Arlindo da Silva da...@al... |

Guys, I just refreshed the binaries to include the most recent front end I have been using for v1.9.0-rc1. The [Start] menu also includes GrADS GUI with starts with an Athena GUI. Dear Mr Arlindo da Silva, Thank you. I notice that the X-server window is larger than the 1.9 rc1 version [I prefer the old one so that I can have my command and GrADS windows placing nicely in one screen]. So far, I did not encounter any problems in running some of my scripts. However, can you let Xming exit automatically after quiting GrADS ? Will keep you informed if I do come across some problems later on. Regards. This is a question for Jennifer; I believe the default size of the initial window has changed in GrADS v2. I did not do anything special for the Win32 build. > So far, I did not encounter any problems in running some of my scripts. However, can you let Xming exit automatically after quiting GrADS ? Hmm.... This is not as simple to implement as you might think. By default, if you have several instances of GrADS running simultaneously they all share the same X server. So, if you kill Xming on exit, you have to make sure there is no other process using it. I'll think about it. > Will keep you informed if I do come across some problems later on.
