I have just attempted to use Opengate on a Windows 98 system and have noticed some problems which I am unable to loacate in other bug reports. I am using version:-
2000/09/23 23:20:35 opengate Message opengate Windows/95 Version 0.9alpha3
The problems are:-
1. I am not clear from the documentation whether I should issue "opengate debug" first to run in debug mode, but when I do I get 2000/09/23 23:17:04 opengate Error 1
2. It could be that I should issue "opengate install" then "opengate debug" but if I do that I get "2000/09/23 23:19:29 opengate Error 1" just the same.
I have assumed that I should start with opengate install and then have used the control menu to start. The gatekeeper seems to run and respond to registrations but the Log Level menu is greyed out - Is that correct?
3. I am not clear from the documentation just how I am supposed to configure for gatekeeper connected calls. I have installed the registry edits and tried setting
"IsGKRouted"=dword:00000001
"Route H245"=dword:00000001
but gatekeeper connected calls still fail see below. I have also tried doing the same thin in the .ini file without success. The only documentation I have found on the registry/ini setting s is on the page http://www.opengatekeeper.org/download.htm is there arny more elsewhere.
4. I have previously managed to run the elemedia gatekeeper from Lucent and to run successful test using their h323sim utility. This allows registration and connections to be setup with their gatekeeper. Repeating the same functions with Opengate.exe registers OK but when connecting calls the called end fails when its Admission request is rejected by the gatekeeper. It is as if the gatekeeper were not expecting . Here is the conversation:-

You may be interested to know that the elemedia gatekeeper in an earlier release (1.3.1) reported a similar error that was later fixed. The error was then described as ". . certain endpoints were receiving a reject for an ARQ sent AFTER a Q931 Alerting message (implying pregranted admissions)"
In spite of these minor problems the program is remarkably easy to get to run, when compared to others. Well done all those who worked on it. If I could only understand where to find the documentation I feel I could get better results.

In answer to the problems:
1+2. I need to improve the documentation on this, apologies. You need to run "opengate install" first then "opengate debug". I need to go off and check this.
In debug mode the log level menu should be available.
3. The settings need to be done in the registry, the .ini file is only really used for the Unix versions. There is more documentation on http://www.opengatekeeper.org/settings.htm
4. Could you send me a trace log of this? (Log level 2) I should then be able to fix the problem.
Apologies in being so long in replying.
