The five-day workshop gives an introduction to OpenFOAM® applied on CFD phenomena and is intended for beginners as well as for people with CFD background knowledge. The user will learn about case setup, meshing tools like snappyHexMesh and cfMesh. Available OpenFOAM® utilities and additional libraries like swak4Foam, that can be used for pre- and postprocessing tasks, are further aspects of this course. Additionally, basic solvers and major aspects of code structure are highlighted. Lectures and hands-on session with typical CFD examples will guide through this course including first steps in own coding. Prerequisites To take full advantage of the course offering it would be advisable to have a standing knowledge of using Linux, as it is used for all exercises. Basics in programming will be required for some of the exercises as well as some insights into CFD theory. Beginners in CFD striving for more theoretical understanding may first visit the course "Introduction to CFD" two weeks before ( http://www.hlrs.de/training/2016/CFD-S ). -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all! For all those here who couldn't make it to the real deadline for abstracts: There is still a chance. Seems like the deadline has been extended (THAT never happened before at a conference ;) ) BTW: there is a number of interesting things in the training sessions http://www.openfoamworkshop.org/courses but from what I understand there are still some slots available. So if somebody is ambitious and says "there is something interesting I can teach the world in 90min" then write them. It doesn't have to be rocket science. Something that is not properly explained elsewhere and which you mastered by yourself and want to brag about (for instance I remember some years ago an interesting course about post-processing with Blender. That was basic Blender and basic OF but it gave people some interesting ideas) Frohe Ostern - -------- Forwarded Message -------- From: OFW11 Sent: Friday, Mar 25, 2016 9:34:01 AM CET To: ber...@ic... You can find at the bottom of the following links the agenda and presentations of the past edition: * https://events.prace-ri.eu/event/352/ Regarding the audience, it is expected to have both academic and industrial participants with a past experience on the use of OpenFOAM® and most of them with HPC experience. ESI-OpenCFD has confirmed participation as key-note speaker. A number of about 40-50 people is expected. If you are interested to submit an abstract or to participate to the workshop, please follow the link http://www.hpc.cineca.it/content/hpc-enabling-openfoam%C2%AE-cfd-applications We are looking forward to hear from you. Ph.D./Postdoc position We are still seeking a candidate for an PHD/Postdoc position on "OpenFOAM modelling of crystal growth, sedimentation and visco-plasticity of the packed bed during solidification of alloys" Topic of Research During solidification of some alloys equiaxed grains form, grow and move. Small grains are carried with the melt flow, while with further growth grains often sink down and sediment. At a certain dense packing, they form a coherent network with intergranular/interdendritic liquid. Such a semi-solid slurry is known to have visco-plastic flow behavior. In addition, thermal contraction leads to a deformation of the solidifying part. In order to describe these phenomena it is suggested to combined three simulation approaches in the present project proposal: (i) a modeling approach which describes growth and sedimentation of crystals, (ii) a modeling approach which describes the mechanical behavior of the sedimented layer (visco-plasticity) and (iii) a modeling approach to describe the thermal contraction of the cast part. Recent developments describe the combined modelling of fluid/gas flow and deformation of solids (FSI: fluid-structure interaction), e.g. gas flow in exhaust pipes. The ideal candidate will investigate even more complicated configurations where the combination of flow with deformations in a solid is not done via a given surface (as in FSI) but through an a priory unknown volume, the two phase mushy zone. Education/Experience Requires a Bachelor/Masters/PhD degree in a relevant subject, e.g. metallurgy, engineering, physics, mathematics, computing; Must have 2 or more years experience with CFD; Experience with programming in OpenFOAM and/or C++ is essential; Needs to demonstrate an interest in scientific programming, e.g. through software projects and published work; Experience in using, assessing and developing computational methods is desirable; Applicants must be fluent in written English and have the ability to publish research papers at international level academic journals. We offer: 3 years position at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben (40 h per week); Postoc: 49.644 EUR per year (gross); Ph.D.: 37.798,60 EUR per year (gross); 25 working days holidays per year; Start on Mai 1st 2016 Please send your application to "info.smmp(at)unileoben.ac.at" ==================================================== Prof. Dr. A. Next friday as in "tomorrow" or "in 8 days"? Anyway: what we could do is upload the PDFs to the OpenFOAMWiki. But I'd limit that to those people that are OK with their stuff showing up on the mighty Google. So what I'd propose is: I'll set up a page for the PFAU-stuff tonight and upload my presentation. Whoever wants his presentation to show up should upload it himself Joszef: is there a program in the ZIP? Because then I'd copy/paste that onto the Wiki > If you have inputs on the future of the PFAU-s as we discussed it > in Linz in regard to proceedings and peer reviewing the > contributions, don't hesitate and contact me/us! > > The next PFAU is going to take place in Graz next year. Dear Foamers, I have the pleasure to invite you to our next Meeting of the Austrian OpenFOAM User Group "PFAU8" taking place in Vienna on June 16, 2014 (Monday) from 10:00 - 16:00. Thanks to the ZID TU Wien (especially Josef Beiglboeck) we have the opportunity to visit the newest and most powerful Austrian Supercomputer VSC3: For increased energy efficiency all computing nodes are submerged in oil for cooling. This is the reason why the whole meeting will be organized at the VSC-Building (Wiener Arsenal). Please go to >>> www.chemical-engineering.at/pfau <<< for registration and submission of your presentation or poster abstracts! Deadline for registration is June 1, 2014. The detailed program and directions how to get to the VSC building will be distributed to the participants by Email. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or suggestions! Vielen Dank.
