---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Fri, 10 Jan 2003 15:47:38 -0500 From: Shane Hathaway <sh...@zo...> To: zop...@zo... Subject: [Zope-Annce] AdaptableStorage: Object-Relational Mapping for ZODB The first alpha release of AdaptableStorage is ready. AdaptableStorage lets you store ZODB objects in your own database and in your format, without using special content classes. You can use a filesystem directory, a relational database, or whatever kind of database you might have as a ZODB. This is very different from all previous solutions. LocalFS, ExtFile, CMF directory views, and other similar products require you to use special content classes that store themselves outside the ZODB. OracleStorage and CVSFile store all objects as pickles. Other solutions have similar issues. AdaptableStorage, however, reuses as much of ZODB as possible to achieve orthogonal persistence to arbitrary databases and formats. At this time, AdaptableStorage comes with two default mappings, a Zope2-filesystem mapping and a Zope2-PostgreSQL mapping. These mappings demonstrate AdaptableStorage and provide a pattern for creating your own mappings. Version 0.4 is an alpha release. There is enough documentation to get started. You will need to download version 1.0.2 of the DBTab product, also released today. http://hathaway.freezope.org/Software/AdaptableStorage http://hathaway.freezope.org/Software/DBTab Comments and questions are welcome. Roberto: I think the problem is in expression.py module include in Openflow I resolved this problem, installing the CMF 1.3 Core products, you can download from http://cmf.zope.org/download/CMF-1.3 I hope this helps. Dear OpenFlowers, in the download pages of the openflow site you will find OpenFlow version 1.0.3. Changes include fixing for using OpenFlow on zope 2.6.0 (ZCatalog is set up in a different way) and some minor changes on zpt interface. Special thanks a lot to Sven Kramer, Adrian van den Dries for their support. Daniele Tarini - Icube |

The problem you get might be caused by a simple mis-naming of the OpenFlow directory. Look in your lib/python/Products directory and check out the OpenFlow directory name. It seems that in your previous Zope installation the directory was named "openflow-engine", while now it is named some other way (maybe "OpenFlow"?) Name the directory the same way you had in your previsous Zope installation and restart Zope. If it still doesn't work write again and we'll try finding a solution. Dear Jim, the demo you have was for OpenFlow 0.7.2 Right now there is no such demo for the current OpenFlow (version 1.0 onward): I had hoped to be able to sketch one but I still could not find the time to do it. It's one of my "to do". As soon as I sketch it out I'll warn you with a mail on this list. Sorry, Daniele =) On Tuesday 17 December 2002 05:18, Jim Lennox wrote: > Hi Openflowers > We really need some help here with this demo. > > We have very simple questions. > Will someone please answer these simple questions and save us more days > of frustration trying to figure this out. > > > We have installed Zope 2.6 and openflow 1.2 > We imported the Demo_english zexp > > Under the Demo_english folder is an acl_users folder with the 9 users > > How do you log into the system as one of them since they don't exist at > the outer most level. Hi, I work for the EADS Sycomore company in France. I am doing tests on OpenFlow to integrate it on one of our customer's platform. I have an import problem : I have developed a workflow with Zope/OpenFlow on Windows 2000. Now, I work on RedHat8.0. I have installed Zope and OpenFlow on Linux RedHat8.0 and I would like to import the workflow I have done on Windows 2000. I did an export on Windows 2000, and I try to make an import on RedHat8.0, but I have the following problem : 2002-12-17T11:42:45 PROBLEM(100) ZODB Could not import class 'openflow' from module 'Products.openflow-engine.openflow' All the DTML documents are correctly imported, only the openflow object is "broken". I think I have installed OpenFlow correctly because I can create openflow object from the Zope manage page... Could you help me ? or Where can I find help ? Thanks for your help. Best Regards Sophie SEILLIER Project Engineer EADS Sycomore, France |

Hi Openflowers We really need some help here with this demo. We have very simple questions. Will someone please answer these simple questions and save us more days of frustration trying to figure this out. We have installed Zope 2.6 and openflow 1.2 We imported the Demo_english zexp Under the Demo_english folder is an acl_users folder with the 9 users How do you log into the system as one of them since they don't exist at the outer most level. Have we missed some importing steps. How do you run this openflow demo. Has anyone successfully installed and run it. I realize that the demo has been removed from the site, so can someone say to me: Yes it still works or no it doesn't work. We are very willing to dig to understand the technology but we can't even get to the most basic parts of this demo. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated and help us get on the way with this technology. thanks in advance Jim |

Thanks in advance for any help. First: I noticed that the Openflow demo that existed in .72 version isn't there anymore, so maybe it doesn't work with the 1.2 code base. Anyway Here is what I have done. Installed the 2.6 Zope on RedHat Linux 7.3 Installed Openflow 1.2 Placed demo in the imports directory From the import/export screen imported the demo letting the ownership remain as it is. I now have a folder "Demo_english" with various sub folders. There is an acl_users sub folder with all the users. They don't exist at the higher (parent level) acl_users level. Ok, Now I exited my browser and removed the cookies. Brought the browser up, and entered the management screen and tried to log on as one of the users (I tried all of them). As an example, I tried user:alex, pwd: alex I immediately get "Authentication Failed! Do you want to retry?" Am I missing some fundamental import steps. thanks for any help Jim |

Hello.
I notice this bug on line 32 of zpt/openflow/Applications.zpt::
<input type="checkbox" name="app_ids:list" value="name"
tal:attributes="name applications/name; value applications/name"/>
(reformatted for clarity)
Overriding the name attribute stops deleteApplication() from working.
The name="app_ids:list" is correct.
Also, the 1.0.2 release version of openflow.py includes a try/except
block for importing CMFCore.Expression, but this check isn't in CVS.
(This should do 'except ImportError', btw)
Why are releases including code not in CVS?
a.

Hello I am currently doing some experiment with the new Openflow version 1.0.2 and I've discovered that the feature "xor split" doesn't work at all. I have manually created an instance, then added the attribute I decided to call "gothere" assigning for example the value "left". On the process schema I have created of course an activity, say "Activity_A" with xor split enabled and 2 different transactions coming out with conditions : instance.gothere=='left' and instance.gothere=='right' going towards activities "Activity_B" and "Activity_C". Proceeding with the flow of the instance I get the error message : <Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource.Error Type: CompilerError Error Value: Invalid variable name "instance.gothere=='left'" > I tried instead with the old OpenFlow version 0.7.2 and it works well, Could someone tell me if is there a work-around or is definitively a bug of this release ? The indexed objects are all of the openflow objects: processes, activities, transitions, instances and workitems. If you want just one kind of object you should discriminate using the 'meta_type' index. > Do you know what kind of transactionality model is enforced > within the ZODB (when used in the Zope default mode, I've read > you can put ZODB above an external DBMS) ? Probably someone can help you better than me. Still, if with "transactionality model" you mean you are worried about the 'rollback' on the ZODB transaction then rejoice: ZODB is fully transactional and any operation being aborted (intentionally or for some mishap including zope errors) cancels any ZODB changes of the current transaction. Hi all, I understand that OpenFlow uses the ZODB storage facility in order to store permanent workflow data. As I don't know how the ZODB works, I'm just wondering about what could happen in case of a great number of process instances going on in the system. Did you ever test OpenFlow with some thousand of instances ? As far as I can understand from a very fast look at the code, the Catalog object inside openflow is sometimes used to find objects. Is this a way of dealing with the just cited issue ? If yes, what are the index-ed items inside the catalog (process definition ids, activity ids, ... ??). Do you know what kind of transactionality model is enforced within the ZODB (when used in the Zope default mode, I've read you can put ZODB above an external DBMS) ? Hi all, I'm just new to the OpenFlow world. I need some help in understanding some basic features of OpenFlow: -) what are (if any) the relationships among pushable and pullable activities managed from the "Roles" panel, and Zope users, roles and objects' ownership ? -) what are the needed steps to change roles that are allowed to (and must) perform an activity, from the Python language ? Dear Digna, I just checked the openflow.1.0.2.tgz available for download and I got no problem. Maybe you were unlucky (maybe the zope server was down). About the application wizard: it's a tool for designing common activity applications. You create a wizard in the same folder where you have an OpenFlow. The wizard will allow you to design applications for the openflow: each application will be created as a simple sequence of common operations: storing a variable in the process instance (creating a property), making an SQL query, sending an e-mail and so on. Each operation can be configured to get input from a lot of sources: from a form driven by the user, from a SQL query, from some variable you set and so on. I tried writing the wizard interfaces so that you can get hints on what you can do with it. Ah, of course you need an openflow installed and created to use the wizard. Dear M.Sayamon, 1) the version you see on www.openflow.it is version 1.0.2: the version file was not updated (thanks for pointing out) 2) From your error log I can see OpenFlow can't find the CatalogPathAware class. Do you have a lib/python/Products/ZCatalog/CatalogPathAwareness.py file? Does it have a CatalogPathAware class? 3) Yes you can have both OpenFlow 0.7.2 and OpenFlow 1.0.2 on the same zope. They will have the same meta_type, though. So when you create an OpenFlow somewhere on zope you'll have to be sure which one you are creating (when you create one look at the html to see what it points to). I do use both OpenFlow on my machine, if you need further help just ask. As I am exploring OpenFlow now, could you tell me or point me to a convenient reference specifying OpenFlow's transition condition? I am presented with a text-input field (with no hints) along with from- and to- selectors. I am willing to add what you tell me to a convenient place on the OpenFlow documentation wiki. Hi Daniele, Thanks! I will try it. However, I do have CMF installed - I see CMFCore 1.2 listed in my control-panel-Products. I also have CMFPlone 1.0beta1. Best regards, Andrew --- Andrew P. Dear OpenFlow-ers, since the release of OpenFlow 1.0 a few bugs have been reported (many thanks to Andrew Ho, Swen Kramer and Popescu Dan). At http://www.openflow.it you will find OpenFlow version 1.0.2 including the pathces for: * fixing a screw-up on the CMF workaround (since CMF is not necessary for OpenFlow) * fixing dtml for activity add/edit best regards, Daniele =) |
