Dear openflowers, I'm glad to be telling you I just posted the third version of the OpenFlow editor: OpenFlowEditor_0_3_tgz. Go get it at: http://www.openflow.it/EN/Download/index_html With this tool you can graphically draw your process through a bubbles and arrows interface. Suggestions for improvements, comments and opinions are warmly welcome. Cheers, Daniele =) PS: you might have to refresh your web-page to see the rendering change. Hi, I'm very new to openflow (to say the least) and need to get it up and running asap. I've installed zope and unpacked OpenFlow in the appropriate directory. What I'm really lacking is the information on how to use OpenFlow. I have no idea how to even open the application (in the browser). Could someone please help me out, I'm really lost with this one and need to get to it asap. If there is a url that will get me into the application I should be right from there. For anyone that can help me, I'd be very greatful for any help. Hi, I have installed the CMFOpenflow/RefLab (1.0.8) and at first appearances it seems to have some issues with the Catalog. For example, I follow the steps listed below... 1. Create an OpenFlow object (Openflow Reflab, since it is outside a CMF) name testwf 2. Within the testwf object, I create a process called testpr with default begin/end activities. 3. I create a Begin-End transition. When I return to the Worklist tab, I see several Process Entries, each titled Catalog. It looks like this. Process: Catalog Process: Catalog Process: Catalog Process: Catalog Also, when I look to the process instances tab, I see this. Title (Id) Status Workitems ( active / total ) (Catalog) 0/ 0 (Catalog) 0/ 0 (Catalog) 0/ 0 (Catalog) 0/ 0 Now, I haven't created any process instances yet. I only see a Catalog entry, which as I've shown shows up in process instances and worklist tabs, for each object that was created in my OpenFlow object. The count of entries matches the number of objects that have already been created in this OpenFlow. 1 for the "Process Definition" (i.e. testpr) 1 for the "Begin" activity 1 for the "End" activity 1 for the "Begin_End" transition Is anyone else seeing this? I have the following environment Solaris 8 Zope 2.6.1 Python 2.1.3 CMFOpenflow/Reflow 1.0.8 Plone 1.0.1 (Even though my workflow is external to my plone CMF) I was previously running Openflow 1.0.5 in this Zope environment, although I removed my 1.0.5 openflow object. Cheers, Tim |

Hello Roberto,
the behaviour is not erroneous. The philosophy behind all this fallin/fallout
is:
- Something exceptional occurs and a workitem goes in fallout (meaning falls
out of the workflow process, i.e. workitem is exceptional)
- Someone fixes the exception (probably using the changeWorkitem openflow
API) and the process instance is ready to be resumed.
Question is: where is the process to be resumed from? This choice can be the
most general, possibly bringing the instance to change activity or even
process to be run! So what happens is a fallin phase:
- Someone chooses a process and activity for the workitem to be resumed in
(calling fallinWorkitem openflow API). And this can be made multiple times,
since you might want to resume the process having some parallel flow going on.
- When you are satisfied with the workitem/s you resumed in (any) flow you
close down this fallin phase using the endFallinWorkitem API.
I hope I shed some light on this matter. Comments and opinions are welcome on
how to handle this (keep in mind that this is exception: anything can happen
and anything can be made to fix it).
Cheers,
Daniele =)

Hi all
I recently tried to use the feature "end fallout" from
ZPT (manage) interface and I've discovered that it
calls the workitem function endFallin ( name
inconsistency ? ) .
This function simply changes the workitem status
attribute, set forwarded to 1 but DOES NOT forward !
Here is the function extracted from workitem.py:
def endFallin(self):
self.setStatus('complete')
self.forwarded=1
self.reindex_object()
As a result the flow result to be broken ( workitem on
fallowing activities are not created)
Because I inteded the endFallout ( this is the right
name I suppose ) as I mean to say to Openflow: I've
made all to be OK on my own (saying offline), act as
everything for this workitem has gone in the right
way,
I think this is an error, let me know
Good work to everybody
Roberto

Hello,
activity parameters are not specified anymore in the activity settings. If you wish to be passing parameters include them in the code you use to trigger the application call.
For example: the application is invoked from a user worklist when the user clicks on the href anchor. Include the parameters in the url call like in
<a href=""
tal:define="i_id workitem/instance_id;
w_id workitem/id;
base_url python:here.WorkFlow.getApplicationUrl(i_id, w_id);
parameters string:parA=${parA}&parB=${parB}"
tal:attributes="href string:${base_url}?${parameters}">
trigger
</a>
where workitem comes from an openflow catalog search. Clear enough?
Daniele =)

Hello, try having: /openflow/sendmail, then as the reference url to be called by the application. I guess OpenFlow needs to handle http://... urls since it might want to refer something anywhere instead of the current Zope (where OF is installed). Feature filed in the development "to do" list. Hi! In the OpenFlowIntroduction it is said, that parameters can come from two sources. In version 0.7 it's possible to add the application parameters to the application AND to the activity, but in version 1.06 I can't figure out the possibility to add the parameters as "activity paramteters". Where can I find it? Thanks, Andrea. |

Keep in mind that to move an openflow application from 0.7 to 1.0 you need to actually do two things: 1) change the openflow objects (the one you mentioned: activities, Transitions, Roles and Application) 2) change the actual application interface and python scripts so that they use the new API While for issue number 1 I see the possibility that someone (or maybe me?) could come up with a OF07/OF10 importer, I'm afraid issue number 2 will have to be handled by the creator of the application (that is: you). Cheers, Daniele =) On Tuesday 25 March 2003 10:43, Maurizio Betti wrote: > Hy all, > > It's possible in some automatic way to make upgrade from 0.7 to 1.06 OF > version without rewriting activities, Transitions, Roles and Application? > This question because I've developed a very complex workflow using 0.7 > version... > > thanks in advance, Maurizio Betti > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by: > The Definitive IT and Networking Event. Hy all, It's possible in some automatic way to make upgrade from 0.7 to 1.06 OF version without rewriting activities, Transitions, Roles and Application? This question because I've developed a very complex workflow using 0.7 version... thanks in advance, Maurizio Betti |

Hello Thierry, I know documentation is critical... but I'm afraid the closest thing we have to a "getting started" document is the OpenFlow introduction I expect you already found on the OpenFlow site: http://www.openflow.it/Documentation/documentation/OpenFlowIntroduction I think before the end of the week we'll manage to get an OpenFlow short usage demo on the download section of the OpenFlow site: stay tuned since I'll post the new on the openflow-dev list. If you still have to subscribe to the list I suggest you to do so from here: http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/openflow-dev Should you have any specific question please send an e-mail to the list: it's the place where you most probably will get an answer (from me and the other opeflowers). Hello openflowers, I posted OpenFlow Editor version 0.2. This versions draws the process map and the set roles for push and pull on the process activities. I also posted an example gif file that OpenFlow Editor automatically generated out of a process. Have fun, Daniele =) -- Daniele Tarini - Research & Development - Icube S.r.l. Hello openflowers, I posted OpenFlowEditor, a small product that will grow to be a fully interactive html editor for OpenFlow. Right now it renders your process maps as gif pictures (boxes for activities and arrows for transitions). The product needs graphviz installed (see http://www.graphviz.org) to work. Thanks a lot to Marco Bizzarri who found out the graphviz tool and had the idea on how to use it to show process maps. The next step will be turning these gifs to clickable image maps! The editor is on its way =) You can find it in the download section of the OpenFlow site: http://www.openflow.it/EN/Download/index_html The following url points directly to the product tgz file: http://www.openflow.it/Download/OpenFlowEditor.tgz Have fun with it, Daniele =) -- Daniele Tarini - Research & Development - Icube S.r.l. Hello openflowers, I posted a simple interface page that monitors workflow activities. It's a zexp you can import (and customize to your needs) to monitor wait and work time of each activity in your workflow. You can find it in the download section of the OpenFlow site: http://www.openflow.it/EN/Download/index_html The following url points directly to the zexp to download: http://www.openflow.it/Download/Monitor.zexp Cheers, Daniele =) -- Daniele Tarini - Research & Development - Icube S.r.l. Hi, a good, yet closed source, wfms is Ultimus (http://www.ultimus.com). Another I could study a bit is WebMerge Workflow (http://www.fourthworld.com/products/webmerge/workflow.html); there are really a loooot of wfms, and they are soooo different!! In open source: wftk: Open-source workflow toolkit (http://www.vivtek.com/wftk) and Chautauqua (written in python!) (http://www.cs.colorado.edu/~carlosm/chautauqua.html) But first of all I would compare Openflow to DCworkflow :-) regards, francesco (ilBestio) On Saturday 08 March 2003 16:18, Maurizio Betti wrote: > Hy, > > Sorry if this question is a bit of OT: > > I'm writing my degree thesis on a project developed on OpenFlow. Hy, Sorry if this question is a bit of OT: I'm writing my degree thesis on a project developed on OpenFlow. But: now, I'm looking any wf products to do some benchmark between OpenFlow and these other. Do you know other workflow products (possibile in opensource area)? thanks in advance, Maurizio Betti |

Hello, the transtions condition is evaluated only when needed. That is when an activity has multiple outgoing transtions in XOR split mode. Where can I find some examples of OF application? We could start to build a site with them, to download and study! :) |

Dear openflowers, I just released openflow version 1.0.6. You can find it at the openflow site at: http://www.openflow.it/EN/index_html Changes from version 1.0.5: - fixed openflow object copy/paste and import/export bug (Catalog doesn't get screwed up anymore) - fixed activity edit bug: activity subflow is now correctly updated - fixed permission bug causing an error in setting the "Use OpenFlow" permission on openflow object itself. - fixed workitem fallout (exception handling): you can now fallout workitem whether the status they have. - changed the permission protecting openflow usersAssignableTo to "Use OpenFlow" - implemented new openflow method: changeWorkitem. Allows changing workitem data; works when workitem is in exception state (ie 'fallout' status) - introduced 'blocked' status for workitem. status='blocked' can be used in catalog searches (so you don't have to check the 'blocked' attribute anymore). Workitem status is blocked when 'blocked' attribute is > 0. - introduced openflow, process, activity and workitem to TAL expression namespace for evaluatoing conditions (only had instance) Openflow 1.0.6 should be compatible with other 1.0 versions. Thanks to all openflowers that contributed with their opinion and work. Daniele =) -- Daniele Tarini - Research & Development - Icube S.r.l. Thanks. I guess this is almost right. "Almost" because there is a workaround: call unassignWorkitem before assignWorkitem if you want to re-make assignment. Anyway I also don't really see the reason not to let assignWorkitem do the assignment even though the workitem is already assigned.
