I get this error with make but not gmake, but then again I
can't get it to work with gmake either. Has anyone figured
    out the problem?

hello anyone know how to fix this yet? i can't compile with
make or gmake. also i get the following warning:

/usr/include/malloc.h:2: warning: #warning "this file includes
<malloc.h> which is deprecated, use <stdlib.h> instead"

maybe this advice should be taken?
