Hi Mark,
I recently got me a Samsung Galaxy S9 running Android 10, flashed LOS 17.1 and installed my favorite camera app "Open Camera" (rev. 1.48.3). As usual, I configured Open Camera to store my photos on the external SD card. In order to accomplish this, I used the "new" Storage Access Framework approach. It took a while, until I noticed that often photos were saved with wrong orientation on my external SD card. These photos also did not show up in the system gallery app (it just showed a grey preview), so I installed an alternative gallery app (Simple Gallery Pro) which was at least able to show all photos, part of them with correct orientation and part of them with wrong orientation when displayed in full screen mode.
As it turned out, all portrait photos taken with Open Camery are displayed with incorrect orientation, whereas all landscape photos are displayed with correct orientation. Furthermore none of these photos is shown in the system gallery app.
Interestingly, when I repeated these experiments with the system default camera, I noticed that all photos stored on my external SD card were displayed correctly by both gallery apps regardless of the orientation of the given photo.
Is there maybe a setting in Open Camera that I misconfigured or could this be a bug?
Regards
Tom

You may be right. I just checked the orientation value of a number of old and recent pictures stored on my S9 and all read "orientation = 0".
I'm having the same issue.
