Hi Mark.

Super Camera. Love it. Thanks a lot for that. I have one issue though, that keeps me from using it effectively - so I kindly ask that you add a focus-lock icon to top level next to the E-lock:

tap (touch) focus does not work on "Open Camera" when switched to Camera 2 API on. Only infinity and "c" continuous - using center area to focus without tapping - work reliably. Tapping screen in any mode - including "c" results in a blurry unsharp image.

  • Face detection is switched off / disabled.
  • Note 8 does support tapping focus areas. It works on native camera app. Tap focus also works perfectly in "Open Camera" - in modes (a, macro, c) when Camera 2 API is switched off.

My workaround is to center focus using "c" then lock focus using the "padlock". This works well, but is fiddly, beacuse I need to go into the next level of icons. Having an icon for focus-lock on the top GUI-level like the expo-lock, would be excellent.

Very kind regards,

Jacques (tarnero at gmail.com)

Can you try some other third party camera applications with Camera2 please, do they work for touch to focus?

    A Better Camera: enable Settings/General settings/More/"Use Camera2 interface".
Footej: this uses Camera2 by default.
AZ Camera: this uses Camera2 by default.
Snap Camera HDR (Trial): enable Settings/Other/"Use Camera2 API".

A Better Camera: tap-focus works with initial settings. Tap-focus aslo works when I switch off "Force Camera 1 interface". However the app does not take or save pictures once "Capture RAW" is checked. Shooting RAW is important to me.

Footej: center auto-focus works well. Tap-focus does not.

Snap Camera: Tap focus works fine when "Use Camera2 API" is set to OFF and Force HAL1. It does not work when "Use Camera2 API " is set to ON. Thus again: no shooting RAW.

Thanks for showing me those alternatives. I do prefer your Open Camera though! I wouldn't mind using a workaround with center focus - it works fast and accurately - however for that, it would be necessary there be a Focus Lock at the top level of the interface. Obviously - it would be ultimately cooler if the tap function were working!

Please let me know if I can try something else. I finally have a RAW-capable phone, but can't really use it properly due to restrictions.
