    Hi there,
would it be a big deal to add an option to store images / videos directly to external storage like a mounted sd-card?
Thanks in advance for any response.

    Hi,

    See Settings/More camera controls/Save location - more info at http://opencamera.org.uk/help.html#save_location .

Argh, I've found that option in the meanwhile, too.
Thanks for your fast response / help and thanks for that awesome app!

Hi. Thought you can change the location, on a Galaxy S4 the app replies that it failed to save the file to that location.
    Any sugestion? Thanks.

Which folder do you save to? Note that saving to the external SD card is no longer possible in Android 4.4 on many devices.

Selected sdcard but it still reverts back to internal storage.

This is likely because writing to SD card isn't supported on the device (especially is this is Android 4.4+). There is a new Android 5 API that apparently re-allows saving to SD cards, it's on my TODO to add support for this.

This app us great but it doesn't really get the exposure right and many things are over exposed....please arrange this issue and this app will be perfect....

Just to check - is the exposure compensation option set to 0 (rather than positive or negative value)? Is it worse behaviour compared to other 3rd party camera apps?

It's great to read that you plan to use the Lollipop API for saving (renaming, moving) files to an external SD card. The app's inability to save to ext_sd is the top feature I think the app is lacking.

    Hi
I am confused. If the stock camera can save my photos to my external sdcard, why can't this one?
I am running a newer version of Android and have had problems with the whole sdcard thing.. but seemed to have worked around it, until now/your camera app.

I like your app mostly, though I do miss the being able to take a picture by saying cheese or something, and I wish it didn't hurt my fingers so much to reach the camera icon so I can actually take a picture.. any way to move that Icon to where I can reach it easier?

But the main problem is the storage problem.
I have done all you have said to do with no luck. Camera app that "Fails to save photo" isn't a very useful app.And like I said, the stock camera app stores to the external card....le sigh..

I guess the only solution is to uninstall until someone figures out how to fix this silly problem that google has caused!

    Thanks for Trying...

The stock camera can make use of device-specific APIs, or it may be that 1st party apps are treated differently by the device's OS.

A problem with speech recognition is that this uses a lot of battery for "always listening", but I could potentially add an option.

What location would you prefer for the take picture icon?

Let me help you turn a bug into a feature :-)

The application B1 File Manager can write to a magic location on external SD card witjh KitKat, so Open Camera might be able to use a similar trick.

    https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.google.com/url?q%3Dhttp://blog.b1.org/sandbox-an-easier-work-with-sd-card-in-kitkat/%26sa%3DD%26usg%3DAFQjCNEZIiJ04izMz0F9APdK1_PpqJF_ow&sa=D&usg=AFQjCNHFLMc3VvTNzdvKvCwVa8wP785s0w

The downside is that uninstalling the app deletes the folder contents! So you could placate your critics by adding the feature but you'd then get flamed for losing photos.

The downside is why I haven't added support for this option :)

But the next version 1.26 (out soon) will have support for Android 5's Storage Access Framework, which will hopefully fix the issue for writing to SD cards.

I have a rooted device so am extra disappointed that I can't write to SD. Are you able to add the option for OpenCamera to request root access and write to SD?

Did you install and launch "sd fix" app on market?

Mr. Mark you have mentioned this coming fix issue and update but will it work on Samsung Galaxy S4 with 4.4.2 android version with SD-CARD save video files?

    Plz respond fast as possible!

Storage Access Framework requires Android 5. Unfortunately writing to SD cards isn't really possible on Android 4.4.

Hi, I've had this app for a while and it's great. Since I got a new phone, first on Android 5, now on Android 6.0.1, the app tells me it cannot write a folder to the SD card. I've formatted it and other apps do access it. Is there anything we can do? I use the camera a lot, and cannot be always transferring files manually. Thanks in advance.

Do you have examples of applications that do support the SD card? Also see opencamera.sourceforge.net/#faq , have you tried the things under "How can I save to my external SD card?"

I am having same issue (Moto G, XT1039 running unoffical CyanogenMod 13.0 - Android 6.01). In settings, I select Use Storage Access Framework (my SD card is portable) and select the external SD card, but when I take apohot, I get the response 'Failed to save photo'. There is no option to make the SD card writable for Open Camera.

Ah, from this thread, I see that the "failed to save" message is because Open Camera can't save directly to my SD card. That is really sad, because I liked the app better than my default Samsung "Camera" app when I first checked out the interface. I even added an "OpenCamera" directory to the DCIM directory on my SD card and attempted to manually point the app at said directory using the settings. Sadly, after all that, I still get the "failed to save" message.

Sigh. I afraid that, if I can't save straight to the SD card, this is a deal breaker. I'll check back later, if I don't find an alternative that becomes my stock camera app.
