Thanks for the feedback. Currently it will interpolate linearly between the start/end distances - so if the distances are 10cm and 20cm, with 3 images, the middle image will be 15cm.

Can I clarify what behaviour you're after for that example?

I agree that the focus distance should be saved - same for regular manual focus distance too, I'll take a look at that.

"Or having auto focus + focus brakets all totheger. If user clicks on screen then current focus distance set to the focus brakets initial values. One click on screen instead of two clicks on each focus braket progress bars."

I wasn't sure how you mean - as in touching should set the focus bracket sliders to match that focus distance?

      1) If start focus 10cm and end focus 20cm witch 10 steps it is ok to go by 2cm - linerally. But if start focus 10cm and end focus 1m (or infinity) with 10 steps it always means I'm shoothing something very close to my device and something fading in distance. Jumping from 10cm to 20cm can cause visible missing focus spots. Best aproach here to jump from 10cm to 13cm, then to 17cm then to 25cm etc.. Increacing steps by little at the near of the device and by a lot near end. It is possible to calcualte optimal focus step distance based on device camera aperture (amount of light get into camera leans) knowing focus distance and distance to the object we can avoid unfocus spots. But keep it simple and easy - just log1(max)

      2) yes, touch on screen should set initial values for booth sliders. This is also very user frendly for manual focus mode, where I can set initial manual focus based on device suggestion.

        1. Yes, I see what you mean. I did wonder if it should be something that's linear over closer distances (say 10cm to 20cm), but tends to being non-linear over longer distances (say 10cm to 1m). Or do you think non-linear behaviour would be preferred even for say 10cm to 20cm?

        2. That makes sense, I don't think I will have time to do this in the next version, but it's on my todo for future versions.

          1. it should work fine for booth if done propertly. Check this spreed sheets: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1n7RoB-V6DU0bxDNW3xrWZu_RkuKpxr54au3NkqcrLyA/edit?usp=sharing

I've now switched to using this method, thanks for your help!

thanks a lot Mark. the focus bracketting feature is dope.

I've just installed Open Camera on a phone with Camera2 (my old Sony doesn't support it) and tested the focus stacking. It did everything I expected - but only took three images. Is there any way to increase the number of images which are to be stacked? I hunted through the settings and couldn't find anything for focus bracketing. There was one for exposure bracketing, with the option of 3 or 5, but I couldn't find focus bracketing. For some of the photos I take with my DLSR I wind up with 10-15 images, and I want to use the phone for similar photos, but in places where my DSLR won't fit. I'm prepared to update my phone if I can get Open Camera focus bracketing working with 10-15 images.

Oops. I found where this setting is. All good. I can now play around with my daughter's phone before buying myself a new phone.

    Hi,
I was the one suggesting the simple use-auto-focus-for-focus-bracketing last year (auto-focus at several points on a user-defined or predefined pattern [often a simple diagonal for the focus stacking use case]).
Not everybody is buying new smartphones every (or even every other) year. So I'm still one of the humble Camera1-API-users.
It was nice to read about the new features of the last versions. But that's all I can do - read about it. It seems as if there are only new features for the Camera2-API and nothing for the Camera1-API anymore (only GUI-settings). Is that right?
I would really like to see the feature usable for ALL users. Is there something planned about this?

Sorry for not replying to this at the time. It's an interesting idea to use the auto-focus at multiple points, but I haven't had time to do this so far I'm afraid. I do try to support the original Camera API where possible (e.g., expo bracketing and HDR work at the slower burst speed) although there isn't the same flexibility if the phone doesn't support manual controls.

"No" seems to be the answer. ... Sadly.
