Hi, Is there any way to simulate a cellular system with openBTS on the 450MHZ? I researched about USRP that allows GSM over 450Mhz but i couldn't find a mobile phone that supports GSM 450Mhz, all i could find is CDMA 450Mhz phones. Can these CDMA phones be used or can they be adjusted in some way to simulate this system. |

No, OpenBTS will not support the 450 MHz band out-of-the-box. But it wouldn't be too hard to modify the code to add this capability. Most of the work would be modifying tables, symbolic constants, and bounds-checking. You would also need to modify the transceiver a bit, for tuning and gain parameters, but as long as your radio supports the 450 MHz band, then it should work. There are no handsets for the 450 MHz, or at least that I'm aware of, not since the 1990s. Although the 450 MHz band was one of the original bands defined for GSM, there was very little use of it, and I don't think it's used anymore, although it's one of the UMTS bands (Band 31). What is your application? Are you trying to re-use an old NMT band? --Neel On 26 January 2015 at 12:46, fadi atallah <fad...@gm...> wrote: > Hi, > Is there any way to simulate a cellular system with openBTS on the 450MHZ? > I researched about USRP that allows GSM over 450Mhz but i couldn't find a > mobile phone that supports GSM 450Mhz, all i could find is CDMA 450Mhz > phones. > > Can these CDMA phones be used or can they be adjusted in some way to > simulate this system. > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Dive into the World of Parallel Programming. It would be a _great_ feature to have the choice between entering a band and an ARFCN, and simply uplink and downlink frequencies in MHz. This would allow tests with weird frequency setups without having to mess around in the code. Ralph. Hi Everyone, I am interested in the 450Mhz since it can achieve a long range, double the range of the 900Mhz frequency. I found many handsets that supports CDMA 450Mhz such as: http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/New-cdma450mhz-cdma-450mhz-handset_1073359231.html I want to know if i can use these handsets with openbts on the 450Mhz. The specs for that handset indicate that the phone supports only CDMA (IS-95) at 450 MHz, and GSM only on the four primary bands (850, 900, 1800, 1900), but not at 450 MHz, so I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for. OpenBTS is an implementation of GSM, and OpenBTS-UMTS is an implementation of UMTS/WCDMA (3GPP Release 99), and they cannot inter-operate with CDMA (IS-95) handsets on any band. I really doubt that you'll be able to find a GSM 450 MHz handset, but please let me know if you do find one. --Neel On 26 January 2015 at 13:46, fadi atallah <fad...@gm...> wrote: > Hi Everyone, > I am interested in the 450Mhz since it can achieve a long range, double > the range of the 900Mhz frequency. > I found many handsets that supports CDMA 450Mhz such as: > http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/New-cdma450mhz-cdma-450mhz-handset_1073359231.html > I want to know if i can use these handsets with openbts on the 450Mhz. > > > > > On Mon, Jan 26, 2015 at 11:12 PM, Neel Pandeya <nee...@et...> > wrote: > >> No, OpenBTS will not support the 450 MHz band out-of-the-box. In fact we are considering exactly this in the moment, but we need to find a company that manufacturers an affordable and somehow modern phone, like such a Mediatek smart phone from China, running Android, offering also the conventional bands, and/or a dual SIM configuration.
