how do you run openbts ? cd /OpenBTS ./OpenBTS ? or through its service. I merely always run it through its standalone app so I can have a direct cli and check what's wrong. And maybe your phone can't see the network because it cannot be used on the gsm band openbts is configured on. default conf is gsm900 but in some regions you can find biband phones on 850/1900. Those phones will not see your network.
