I don't suggest using 'Test SIM's' for OpenBTS right now; re-writable 2G SIM's will be the most compatible. Note that these suggestions may change if Milenage/XOR support is added. Most 'Test SIMs' currently on the market are for 3G/4G testing with the 'dummy' XOR algorithm, which is different from both the Milenage algorithm used in deployed 3G/4G networks and basic GSM A3/A8 authentication. For OpenBTS (GSM _and_ UMTS), you want to use 2G cards because the current implementation supports only A3/A8/comp128. That includes OpenBTS-UMTS, which uses 2G fallback mode on the older cards. Also, to make things more complicated, many people are interested in LTE usage with OpenLTE, Amarisoft, OpenAirInterfaces, and other 4G projects. These projects will require USIMs _with_ Milenage or XOR support. So people planning on using OpenBTS and other LTE projects will likely require different sets of SIMs. There are probably exceptions to the above notes, but that has been my experience with various writable SIMs (sysmoSIM, SuperSIM) and test USIMs (Anritsu, Agilent, R&S). -TT |
