Hello Eiso, Sorry for the confusion - I did not update the README. With pybel.py, I have made no attempt to provide compatability with Python 2.3 although it's possible that the previous OB release (2.2.0) worked with it. If you are not interested in using Pybel just replace pybel.py by an empty file, and rerun setup.py. There should not be any problem using openbabel.py with Python 2.3. However I recommend that you install Python 2.4. You can easily download and compile it locally on your machine, or get it from your system's package manager (for example, several versions of Linux such as Debian have the option of installing several Python versions side-by-side).
