#59 Docs: File Format Specifications and Limitations

For the 2.0 release (or very soon thereafter), the documentation or
website should include a database of information on the file formats
supported by OB.

  • Read / Write
  • URL to specification (in some cases, these should be defined by
    Open Babel if needed)
  • File extension / code
  • MIME Type
  • Types of data supported (conformers, multiple molecules, charges,
    spins, ...)

Some of this can be generated automatically from the OB code
itself.

Importantly, the documentation MUST list any limitations or
deviations from the file specification. For example, if Open Babel
does not support all SMARTS matching features, then these should
be listed in the documentation with links to the feature request
tracker.
