Hi Adam, I assume you want to help with OPDA? First thing to do is to register yourself to the developers mailing list. (Others please do so as well!) We haven't really kicked off yet but there are a few volunteers. (See cc) The best way to start a project from my eperience is to have some base code, which people can tweak and improve. (Alex, do you want to commit yours?) 1) Let's start by writting an OPML/RSS importer for the directory, which outputs the parsing to an OPML file. I think it should also parse the RSS file to get additional information. 2) The next step would be to store to an MySQL database. The code from importing and to the database should have a clean interface so we can use alternatives to My SQL. 3) Next we would need a browser. Code which presents the database contents when we go up and down the tree. Alex, you suggested: http://scripts.dbmasters.net/index.php?id=40 Perhaps stripping this down will give us the base to start with. Hope we can kick-off in a practical manner. Cheers / Christophe p.s. I listed the features here. (Thanks Alex) 1) an application module that can be used by anyone who wants to incoroporate directory functionality into their website - sort of like forums can be integrated 2) the directory should have multiple level categorization and sub- categorization - and perhaps keyword associations with categories 3) each entry would have podcast name, url, xml, description, views, votes, comments, rates, rating, keywords, associations to multiple categories, and something that shows most recent podcasts and maybe titles of recent podcasts 4) user registration and a set of user level controls to manage their subscribtion lists, ratings, etc. 5) the ability to make a favorites list - "MyOPML and MyRSS" or something like that 6) people who like this also like... 7) a variety of views of the directory - category, most votes, newest, tags, ratings etc. 8) great search capabilities - maybe even the ability to go out to other directories and find other listings 9) easy to submit podcast to multiple categories 10) easy admin to approve and/or change catogories etc 11) ability to pull information from podcast xml and get key words from the website so it can suggest categorization automatically 12) a publish/subscribe format that allows you to pull just name and xml or includes all the entries data 13) the ability to subscribe to other directories to pull in entries 14) the ability to publish to other directories to enable others to subscribe 15) the ability to publish different views of the directory to other directory sites 16) advertising banner control etc. 17) compatable/linkable to some good blog and forum platforms 18) modular so people can write their own extensions 19) set up so its easy to change the style/look etc 20) somehow able to support international interactions ----- Original Message ----- From: "Adam Christianson" <phy...@us...> To: <dz...@us...> Sent: Saturday, March 26, 2005 5:18 PM Subject: Joining the Team? > Message body follows: > > Hey if you are looking for more developers I want to help.
