When importing dxf data into OOM there seems to be no way of selecting the layers within the dxf and converting those layers to more useful symbols. In OCAD 8 this is possible by clicking on the grey dxf symbol and clicking select by symbol and it will recognise all the symbols in that layer of the dxf. This does not seem to be an option in OOM but would be a very useful one. At the minute I am importing into OCAD 8, converting and then carrying on mapping in OOM which is not the best solution.

I had some major problems this weekend, I imported several DXF-files, and when I "undid" one import since I didnt remember to change symbol before I imported next file, OOM stopped to show the map. I saved to OCAD and opened, and the map was full of vertical lines.
I could'n opne background images either, or they didn't appear on the screen at least.
I will try to repeat this and mail some files, so you can check.
