The manual states: "If you do not specify start or string, the stream is closed and 0 is returned". This triggers NOTREADY for files opened in read-only mode with STREAM command 'open read'. IMHO that's no bug, the old CHAROUT( file ) trick was needed before the STREAM function existed, and if it exists STREAM command 'close' is clearer. Maybe mention this oddity in the manual, or simply accept CHAROUT( file ) as documented also in read-only mode.
