Hallo!

AFAIK there is another possible reason for the problem.
If you install the library for the first time and do it manually you
might need to call ldconfig (I think this was the program, check the
man page first!) to rebuild the library name cache of the loader.
libtool does this automatically or at least it tell you to do it
manually.
