On Sight 1.1 has been ported to BeOS, thanks to Marcin 'Shard' Konicki. The game has also been added to BeBits at http://www.bebits.com/app/3261 .
The next version of On Sight is being made all the time. It will most likely include a renewed user interface eliminating the need for command line parameters. Also playing over a computer network is planned to be implemented. A proper client-server model will be used with support for multiple machines each with multiple players playing together. It is possible that an active database of servers waiting for players is also implemented with a possible web interface at the On Sight home page.... read more
The On Sight home page has been completely remade. The new page includes the game rules explained along with some useful tactics for playing On Sight. There are also philosophical thoughts about the purpose of On Sight, some screen captures, and the usual download and install instructions for Linux and Windows. The new home page is created with emphasis on its usability. Go check it out!

On Sight version 1.1 is now released. The big things in the new version are a real user interface and precompiled executables for both Linux and Windows. Also the graphics are mostly redrawn and they look much better now. As before, played games are saved and can be analyzed afterwards. There are two played games included in the release.
Version 1.1 of On Sight is on its way. The new version includes new features such as a Windows executable, and a redesigned user interface. The Windows port has still some minor open questions related to obscenities of cross-compiling, but the main work is already done. The new user interface is halfway implemented at this moment. It includes the Focus + Context UI design pattern as a way to scroll a game board that doesn't fit into the screen, a slider for viewing past turns (helps in analyzing the ongoing game), and a button for ending the current turn. There is still quite a lot to program, so it will probably take several weeks more until the version 1.1 gets released.
Antti Oulasvirta has joined in developing On Sight. Antti is an expert in user interface design. As a consequence, in the future version 1.1 of On Sight, there will be a completely redesigned user interface. Welcome to the team, Antti!
