Dear all, with the help of UNISG we have inserted the requirements in the EA repository (Model.Requirements). Dear partners, This mail is about an important issue in the project for which I have a strong preference, this emerged thanks to the discussions we recently had. I wish to recap what is current my concern about our approach, despite the notation used actually in the modeling environment. This aspect is related to the WP2 because it affects the usability and extensibility of the platform (and this is a problem we all share and care.), but it's Soluta.Net primary responsibility. The concern is the difference between the specification of the rules in a negotiation protocol and the strategy definition (I'm not referring here to recommendation, more about later in the email). The first is to be related with the modeling environment, is in the public model of the negotiation and shared with all the parties involved in a negotiation. For example the fact that we are modeling a reverse auction (the price descends, the owned is the buyer) is to modeled in the factory so that the facilitator (ops...the ONE System) is able at run-time to enforce a correct behavior for both parties both at the GUI and the APIs level. For example a special auction where the termination date is extended by 10 minutes every time an offer is received is to be modeled with the factory and be part of the public model. This has nothing to do with a way a negotiation is conducted by the parties, this is a definition of the negotiation protocol. I would call this "Negotiation Rules" The second is to be related to the way an actor instance wishes to run an auction in coherence with the negotiation rules. This has not to be part of the public negotiation model, it has to be private to each party-instance (eg. Tom Jones in the role of the buyer, which has to be different from the Tom Jones in the role of the seller in another auction; this is related to a negotiation instance). For example in a simple auction as a buyer I could decide to make an offer 30 seconds before the end of the auction or, as a seller, to reduce the starting prince 10 minutes before the end of the negotiation if no offer were received. I would call this "Negotiation Strategy". We shall support this separation in the MM because this will help creating and binding ad-hoc negotiation strategies: I'd like this link to be made in the setup phase (for the owner) or in the join phase (for the participant): the strategy depends on a negotiation model and it is binded with the negotiation instance at runtime, it's then executed by the ONE node associated with the actor. *Despite the notation adopted*, the rules for the protocol (e.g. the price has to decrease, the expiration date will extend), has to be written in the model but they do not pertain to participants or the owners. At the MM level there shall be Facilitator (who define/enforce the negotiation rules between the parties), the participants and the owner. Notation issues: this is an open issue IMO and it's decision is a consequence of the above point. For sure, as partially agreed in the Waterford meeting, in a neg. model the participant has not to have rules or behaviour associated with it. If we do not want to model the facilitator (which I otherwise would suggest) the actions associated with the owner are to be considered as neg. Rules not neg. strategy and hence in this hypothesis of notation it represents effectively the facilitator. How change the notation is still on open issue which we can discuss when we agree on the above vision which has impact in the MM. Where to model the neg. rules? A pragmatic choice IMO is to have a perspective in the factory that loads a neg. model and allow to associate actions to protocol messages or timing events. This last paragraph presents an idea and it does not strong preference from my side. What I propose (with strong preference given the impact in the system) is: - support neg. rules in the MM and in the neg. model - support neg. strategy in the MM - to be modeled in the factory (private to the author, in relation with a neg. model, but not part of it) - to be binded in the setup/join phase And the recommender?? It's a strategy advisor. Hi Michele, Yes, Jabber is an open source instant messaging platform. You can find more details about it here: http://www.jabber.org/user/userguide/ In order to use Jabber, you will need to choose a Jabber server and then set up an account on that server. Full details are given in the link above. I will be in touch tomorrow with more details about the meeting. Please will you send me on you Jabber Id once you get set up? Kind Regards, Trish. -----Original Message----- From: one...@li... [mailto:one...@li...] On Behalf Of michele bianchi Sent: 15 January 2007 09:42 To: one...@li... Hi Trish, we have started an internal brainstorming to find what contribution we=20 can bring for the task 3.1. Our first consideration is that it should be useful determine what is=20 exactly required by this task and make some strategic decisions on the kind of languages and models we=20 will use. What about a discussion via the wiki? Regular meetings are good. I'm sorry we cannot use skype (our sysadmin=20 blocks it). Our preference is for Jabber. I'm available on 17th January at 10am CET. Best Regards, Alessandro Trish Mulligan wrote: > Hi All, > > Here is a breakdown of tasks and man months associated with WP3: > > Task > > =09 > > Task Name > > =09 > > Start Date > > =09 > > Leaders > > =09 > > CN > > =09 > > SN > > =09 > > ITC > > =09 > > WIT > > =09 > > UNISG > > 3.1 > > =09 > > Languages Models and Agreements > > =09 > > Dec-06 > > =09 > > WIT > > =09 > > =09 > > 4 > > =09 > > 2 > > =09 > > 6 > > =09 > > 2 > > 3.2 > > =09 > > Design Tools (Factory) > > =09 > > May-07 > > =09 > > WIT > > =09 > > =09 > > 8 > > =09 > > =09 > > 11 > > =09 > > 3.3 > > =09 > > Engine/Runtime Components > > =09 > > Feb-07 > > =09 > > WIT > > =09 > > 5 > > =09 > > 13 > > =09 > > =09 > > 9 > > =09 > > 3.4 > > =09 > > Distributed Knowledge Storage and Sharing > > =09 > > Mar-07 > > =09 > > CN > > =09 > > 7 > > =09 > > =09 > > 2 > > =09 > > 9 > > =09 > > 3.5 > > =09 > > ONE Platform Integration and Test > > =09 > > Jan-08 > > =09 > > SN > > =09 > > 1 > > =09 > > 4 > > =09 > > 1 > > =09 > > 1 > > =09 > > *_Task 3.1_* > > We would like to open up the discussion regarding this task. > > 1. What contribution does each partner bring to this task? This will make it clear what role each partner will take in this WP. 2. Regular meetings (e.g. every 2 weeks) will allow for status update and an opportunity to raise potential issues. How does everyone feel about this? Do partners have a preference for meetings: Skype (max 9 people in conference call), Jabber, telephone, something else? 3. Wiki - We have added some information to the ONE Wiki under the following link: http://one-project.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/WP3, including our draft model of negotiation. This is by no means final as we are waiting input from WP1 and other partners. We have also started a few discussions relating to WP3 via the wiki, we encourage you to comment/critique this information. 4. Project Plan - we need to discuss the task plan and determine what is exactly required, when it is due etc. Task 3.3 WIT and SN have continued the discussion from the technical meeting about the negotiation arena (one node vs Node to Node). We will add some details to the wiki about these discussions. Task 3.4 Although this task doesn't start until March, on 12th December Giovanni highlighted some important questions that need answers. We will try to provide some input for him via the wiki. I propose that we should have a meeting next week to discuss these matters further. Is everyone available on Wednesday 17th January at 10am CET? Kind Regards, Trish. |

Hi Pierfranco, I think you have accidentally reversed the roles of Mikey and Donald from your previous slides we don't like to use the word "console" we like Negotiation Coordinator (1 for each negotiation instance) and Negotiation Subordinate (1 to many for each negotiation instance) this is abstract enough for the our current working scenarios, but we may need to change if WP1 turns up scenarios without a coordinator Thanks Jason and Zohra Pierfranco Ferronato wrote: > Hi > > what about: > > Donald: > - Negotiation Coordinator > - Negotiation Director > - Negotiation Master Console > - Master Negotiation Console > - Tenderee Negotiation Station > - Tenderee Negotiation Booth > > Mikey: > - Negotiation Console > - Tenderor Negotiation Station > - Tenderor Negotiation Booth > > I'm for: > -D: Negotiation Master Console > -M: Negotiation Console > > Please notice that these are CIM terms, i.e. they do not pretend to > express tech design features but rather the functional context where > they are to be used, > > We will understand that there will be a Negotiation > Coordinator/Manager component beneath them that control the execution > of the underlying workflow.
