Dear George, I have had the same problem and solved it yesterday ;). I'm running omail on debian sarge with apachache 1.3. After upgrading from woody to sarge the problem you discribed occured. I found out that the problem has to do with sudo. After trying some different packages I found out that old debian packages like sudo_1.6.6-1.3_i386.deb are working fine, but the new stable package doesen't. I also tried the lastest sudo from source and it worked fine. I don't know your system but maybe this helps... Regards, Stefan -- "Feel free" - 10 GB Mailbox, 100 FreeSMS/Monat ... Hello all I've installed omail-webmail 0.98.5 on Linux with vpopmail suexec et al. It works very well, but only on command line. If I access webmail by browser, I get the login screen, and after entering the credentials, the login screen simply reappears. Entry in httpd access lognnn ........[09/Sep/2006:11:58:57 +0200] "POST /omail.pl HTTP/1.1" 200 2641 Entry in omail log: Sat Sep 9 11:58:57 2006 - [29679-O] (,) UNKNOWNUSER - - started - version 0.98.5 If I click on "about", a new window appears, but with the login screen, not with the about content. The URL correctly shows ....?action=about though. My suspicion is that omail.pl somehow doesn't seem the receive the command parameters (i.e. action=xyz, etc.). I set LogLevel to debug, but apache2 doesn't seem to debug at all. I see a few debug lines, but no usable information. If I call omail.pl from the command line with the httpd user, it works. Does anyone have any ideas about how to resolve this problem? Thanks in advance, George -- "Feel free" – 10 GB Mailbox, 100 FreeSMS/Monat ... It has to do with the fact that you can't specify multiple arguments after the "#!" in omail.pl or omail-prefs.pl Joel Newkirk figured out a way around this problem by creating a wrapper script that invokes omail.pl. He created one for omail-prefs.pl too. <quote from Joel Newkirk's email Nov 27, 2003> [root@hild omail]# cat omail.cgi #!/bin/bash /usr/bin/sudo -u vpopmail /var/www/html/omail/omail.pl [root@hild omail]# And a similar 'bootstrap' omail-prefs.cgi. Then change scripturl and prefsurl in omail.conf to list the .cgis. <end quote> |

Correct, you just need to run the webserver as the vmailmgr user. I'd try to help you out with your login problem, but my vmailmgrd setup is not functioning atm. > Advices/questions: > I think there should be only _one_ configuration file exposed to the > user otherwise the change to get some stuff messed up is high. > Is not also clear wheter I have to comment out variables when I don't > use some type of configuration. Webmail version 2 solved the configuration issues by using a configuration file. I believe some of the confusion with how to configure the auth modules was cleared up too. btw, webmail version 2 was never really released.. It's only accessable via cvs. > thanks in advance > Eli > Thanks for the feedback! Carter |

Hello to all, I'm trying to getting started using omail webmail + vmailmgrd + qmail I copied the changed user settings present for both (they are equal) omail.pl omail-prefs.pl here http://javanet.info/qmail/omail/properties.txt they should be ok. I had to comment out "use strict" otherwise I had to define countless "my" variables. The problem is that omail fails to login I see in the omail log: UNKNOWNUSER - login - started - version 0.98.5 UNKNOWNUSER - login - vauth login FAILED for pos...@ja... @ mail.javanet.info UNKNOWNUSER - login - FAILED login - pos...@ja... The path /usr/local/bin/vauthenticate is right as also the /home/javanet_info/passwd.cdb. My understanding is I don't need sudo or suexec when running with vmailmgr right? Advices/questions: I think there should be only _one_ configuration file exposed to the user otherwise the change to get some stuff messed up is high. Is not also clear wheter I have to comment out variables when I don't use some type of configuration. For instance if I don't have vpopmail the vchkpw var have to be blank "" or simply commented out? $vpopmail have to be set = 0 or simply commented out? thanks in advance Eli |

Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Dear omail-webmail list, I am trying to install omail-webmail and have run into a problem that I cannot solve. I was able to trace the problem to vauthenticate. Here is the (sort of) short description of the issue -I have virtual server running FreeBSD 4.8 -Qmail runs fine -omail-admin runs fine and I was able to create users with it -I can use pop3 to access created mailboxes and to fetch mail. -I've set up the omail-webmail got it to work, but cannot log in as a user (or as anything else for that matter). -The whole thing breaks down at the authentication part. Here is the code that fails: my $command = 'echo -e "'. $domainname .'\x00'. $username .'\x00'. $password .'\x00" | ' .$vauthenticate; my $output = `$command`; I have logged the output of command and the params are all correct. My passwd.cdb seems fine. I can run strings on it and get: mailer-daemon postmaster@ 1079584951 postmaster postmaster@ 1079584951 root postmaster@ 1079584951 djansr $1$64yrJ9OL$4UUGsX6JWQx2xOGaCf4/ ./users/djansr Srdjan Askovic 1079787465 88T? the omail log looks like this (I have added the command logging): Sun Mar 21 15:43:39 2004 - [28079-O] (24.10.210.16,) UNKNOWNUSER - - started - version 0.98.5 Sun Mar 21 15:50:28 2004 - [60588-O] (24.10.210.16,) UNKNOWNUSER - login - started - version 0.98.5 Sun Mar 21 15:50:28 2004 - [60588-O] (24.10.210.16,) UNKNOWNUSER - login - executing echo -e "snbworld.com\x00djansr\x00correctpassword\x00" | /usr/local/bin/vauthenticate Sun Mar 21 15:50:28 2004 - [60588-O] (24.10.210.16,) UNKNOWNUSER - login - output was Sun Mar 21 15:50:28 2004 - [60588-O] (24.10.210.16,) UNKNOWNUSER - login - vauth login FAILED for djansr @ snbworld.com Sun Mar 21 15:50:28 2004 - [60588-O] (24.10.210.16,) UNKNOWNUSER - login - FAILED login - djansr I tried running vauthenticate manually but it just sits there and does nothing. I execute vauthenticate and hit enter it goes onto a new line and then I tried to type anything I could think of in every order... I also tried running the above echo command from the shell to no avail (again I changed everything I could think off). I rtfm'd including almost complete google output on the issue, but found nothing that works. Somewhere I read that if you type vauthenticate username it will go to new line and wait (it does), and then if you type the pass followed by enter it creates output. My vauth. does not create output ever. I can only use ctrlD to exit. The only other thing I can think off is that vauthenticate might not know where the passwd.cdb is (but pop3 works). Is there a config file or something like that ??? HELP.... Srdjan Askovic snbworld.com |

Jairo, I've added the Brazilian Portuguese translation to webmail2.. There isn't a release of webmail2 yet... So you'll have to grab webmail2 from cvs if you want to check it out.. I have ONE final change to make before I'm planning on doing a release of webmail2... I'm going to add support for multiple folders (user created folders), wish me luck! After the release, I'll work on finding all of the text that isn't in the translations and add it to them. Carter On Thu, 2003-07-31 at 05:00, Jairo Tcatchenco wrote: > Hello Carter! > > Here it is. Hello Carter! Here it is. This is a translation for Brazilian Portuguese. I tried to put the name pt-br.lang, but the software didn't accepted it, maybe I would have tried pt_br... But it's another history, maybe to a psycologist. :) I've noticed that the program has some messages that aren't in this file. Maybe it could be changed, for a whole translation. Hughs. I wrote a language file in Brazilian Portuguese to oMail-webmail. Where can I put it to everybody? Jairo Tcatchenco ja...@ad... |

Again, another question without any try... It's terrible! For some reason that you don't know why, you changed de mod of the file sendmail of the qmail installation, used as link by the system. Just change the chmod for this file, verify the soft link (ln -s) from the /usr/sbin/sendmail to /var/qmail/bin/sendmail. After this, verify if all things are going well, messagewall and vmailmgr. Everything ok, everybody happy and using the webmail. Hughs. Jairo Tcatchenco ja...@ad... Jairo Tcatchenco wrote: > Ok! Ok! Solved the initial problems, now I have my webmail running. The problem is... I have configured the omail files, and there there is an entry for sendmail program, which isn't in use. It is not in use because I installed vmailmgrd and messagewall. And now, how to make the omail send mails? I've tried to reuse the sendmail, but without success. Thanks again Jairo Tcatchenco ja...@ad... |
