Execute the downloaded the OIR flight planner setup file and follow the instructions in the installation wizard. To start the flight planner, use the newly created entry in the Windows Start menu or double-click flightplanner.exe in the installation folder.
Use the mouse to move the map. If you shift&click on a placemark (airfield or navigation aid), a popup showing some information about it will open.
If you right click a placemark, you will get a context menu. You can display airfield information and user ratings directly by choosing the respective menu item.
Using the routing plugin, you can quickly calculate time and distance between waypoints and the whole route, set stopovers and check the NOTAMs of your departure, destination and stopover aerodromes.
Setting waypoints is done by right clicking and choosing "add waypoint". Waypoints can be set on airfield and navigation aid markers as well as somewhere on the map.
If the airspaces plugin is enabled, airspaces will be displayed on the map. Hold ctrl and left click in an airspace on the map to get information about the lower and upper limits, the type of the airspace and the frequency assigned to it.
The database supplied in the installer contains navigation and airspace information only for Switzerland. If you need other countries, you have the database maintenance tool (menu "Extras") where you can choose which countries you want to add to your database or you may download the respective data files from http://www.openaip.net and add them to the database, following the instructions below.
Choose the menu Extras, Database Maintenance. The database maintenance window will open. The first tab "Configuration" helps to configure installation of navigation and airspace data by country. Checked items will be installed or updated using the "Online update" tab, unchecking items will not delete the respective data but only disable further updates. If you want to clean your database from old and no longer used items, use the button "Clean database".
Use the tab "Online update" to update your database. Check first the available OpenAIP data by clicking "Check for Updates". At the second step, click "Updata database" to download and install the previously selected data. Wait until the import has finished, and restart the application to load the updated data.
Offline update (tab "Offline import") : Choose the type of data you want to import (airspaces, airports, navaids) and select the files you previously downloaded from http://www.openaip.net and/or http://ourairports.com. Please note that OpenAIP filenames must be openaip_airspace*.aip, openaip_airports*.aip or openaip_navaid*.aip (= the filenames you get when downloading from OpenAIP.net).
