[Obo-discuss] synonym versus dbxref

Dear All,

I'm mapping a list of text phrases from our internal organ vocabulary to
terms in MA. However, I'm not sure whether to map them as synonyms or
dbxref. I think a synonym with an associated dbxref would be the best,
because I can then trace where the synonym comes from (which database), and
in addition have a specification (exact, related, broad ...) since some of
our organs map exactly to terms in MA and others do not. This specification
is not possible using dbxref, right?

What's your advice how to decide synonyms with dbxref or a dbxref alone?
