In this Book: http://www.dartmouth.edu/~dons/part_1/chapter_4.html
the author writes:
"Before concluding this discussion of eye movements it would be appropriate to say a few words about "amblyopia" (literally, "dim eye"). This is a condition in which one eye obviously drifts off target (some have called it a "wandering eye"). However, the patient is unaware of this and does not see double."
Question: Can I add the synonyms
"wandering eye" and "Wandering eye movements"
to amblyopia or to another term?
Seb
Ambylopia is a kind of visual impairment that occurs if the eye never learns to see. For instance, if a child has really bad myopia that is not corrected, the affect eye will never really "learn" to see because the cortical connections are not formed. Amblyopia is thus more than a primary observation (visual impairment) it also includes some inference about the etiology, but since amblyopa has a characteristic clinical history and course etc, I think it is a valid term.
Wandering eye is a consequence of amblyopia and not specific for it (the eye wanders because it is not being use to see with). Therefore, it is not really a synonym at all, even if it is occasionally used that way apparently.
