I installed the latest version (0.36) from sf.net on the
latest stable version of Miranda.
After disabling the messenger service (i'm running
win2k), I was able to search (and find) myself and a
coworker in the find/add user dialog. I could also
successfully send a message to both me and my
coworker.
However, neither my coworker nor me (using "net send
<my computer name>" from the command prompt)
could send any messages to me. All I got was:
MIRANDA:~>net send miranda "foo"
An error occurred while sending a message to
MIRANDA.
The message alias could not be found on the network.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2273.
(incidentially, my computer is named "miranda". (and
no, that was before I discovered the IM program :)).
The same result occurs when I try to send to my login
name.
This unfortunately makes this plugin unusable to me. :-(
I'm a bit disappointed since it seemed like a very good
idea otherwise. (I use "net send <myself>" in long-
running scripts to notify myself that the script is
finished...)

I'm sorry but windows net send and nsp can't work thogether
on the same computer.
Here is a console aplication that can send messages to nsp
from command prompt. The only limitation is that you can send
only to computer names, and mailslot listen shouldn't be
disabled in nsp.

Okay, that perhaps explains why _I_ can't send to myself
from my own computer (I suspected that could be
problematic). However, it does not explain why my coworker --
on a completely different computer, without nsp installed --
couldn't send messages to me when I ran nsp.
I'll download your program and try again, both from my
computer (and I'll ask my coworker again if he's not too busy
working ;-)).

Ok, now I have tried. This is the results:
When I'm running the Messenger service:
mserv from my computer -> OK
mserv from other computer -> OK
net send from my computer -> OK
net send from other computer -> OK
When I'm running nsp in Miranda:
mserv from my computer -> OK
mserv from other computer -> OK
net send from my computer -> DOES NOT WORK
net send from other computer -> DOES NOT WORK
I can live with the fact that net send from my computer does
not work, even if it means I have to change some scripts/bat-
files. I can imagine that this perhaps is impossible, if net
send somehow requires that the Messenger service is
running.
However, if no-one else CAN'T send anything to me using the
traditional way, then the whole plugin is of no use to me,
since I can't force everyone else on the LAN to stop
using "net send". The whole point of this plugin should be that
it is a replacement for the normal Messenger service, right?
I don't want to sound rude. You have done a great amount of
work and I am really impressed with what you have done so
far. I just wish I could use it, as I think it was intended. :-)

NSP should receive net send messages from other computers.
Could you send me the debug log from nsp.

How do I get a debug log?

Just use the debug build version of nsp. The log is saved in
root foolder of drive c (something like c:\nsp_debug....log).

hello,
just my experiences:
with the same configuration/versions as Magnus got the same
error on w2k. then i tried other nsp versions (0.0.3.5, 0.0.3.6,
0.0.3.7 rc2) but the result was the same
then i tried it on winxp, and the result was also the same :(
i need to say that i just upgraded miranda for the newest
stable version (0.3) and upgraded also many plugins with
adding a few new of them. i had the thought nsp (0.0.3.5)
was working before, but that's fact, i really rarely used it.
... and now i need it...

I am having similar problems with nsp as Magnus. I all worked
fine on NT but now on XP I cant reach some peolpe and some
can't reach me. It is quite wierd. I used to use it a lot but
now I am back to clunky old email that take for ever to be
read.
Any help would be appreciated.
(I am a programmer and have tested just about all aspects of
connection with the clients but cannot send to some and
receive from others..)
PS it worked for me -until I upgrated to Miranda 0.3.1
Good luck

Miranda 0.3.1
NSP 0037rc2 (and older versions)
Computer in domain
After properly configuring environment (shutting down Messenger)
I've noticed interesting regularity:
1. There were 2 groups of machines in my domain some can
send me messages via net send and some can't.
2. I've checked "Don't listen on mailslot (needs restart)"
checkbox and the machines in groups swapped. That who can
send me before checking now can't and that who can't now can.
So 2 groups stayed but swapped.
Resuming: Can you fix plugin so, that it can listen on two ways.
???

Hi!
My experiences:
Plugin sends messages quite fine, the problems are in receiving only. Sending to standard Messenger works always right, but pugin sometimes does not receive messages (not response to Call) and this is the source of all problems in messaging. The error code is 0х0014 - NRC_NOCALL (no callname).
I am programmer and look through source code of this plugin.
Sorry for bad English :)
