as i said before on ion's ML, i 'm still torn between the two equally good (and almost equally bad) names, "notion" and "nion"; so here i'll present my arguments for/against both, and let you decide (or present your own arguments for other names). first up, notion, why it's good: - it's clever - it has a double meaning - double pronunciation - easy to remember - we already have a home/mailinglists why it's bad: - little visibility on search engines (?) - it's already trademarked by a couple of companies - it's also the name of an app produced by one of those companies nion, why it's good: - ᚅ - it means 'fork' in ancient irish, which is both - good, because: it's clever - bad, because: we might decide to rewrite the code at some point, and at that point, it won't be a fork anymore, and we need a name that lasts forever and ever and ever... - you can say it has a double meaning too ("nion" as in "Not-ION" and "fork") why it's bad: - it's already trademarked by EVEN MORE companies (I checked) - visibility on search engines is anybody's guess... so there, M Rawash |
