i have recently installed NotePad++ 5.0.3.. i downloaded the FunctionList_2_alpha.zip and i've done everithinf that it says in the HOWTO file... i even read some posts here about it... everithing is done "by the book" BUT: when i open the function list window (in the right of the screen), no function is displayed. I checked also ShowAllFunctions but nothing shows... I also opened the plugin from the menu and selected PHP for ex., or C++ and nothing happens.
Another problem... i saw on some printscreens that NotePad++ is also suggesting some functions while typing... again... nothing happens... can someone help me please in this matter...?!? I know i am maybe a little newbie with some things but come on.... not even when i make everithing "by the book" as told before, nothing seams to work... :((
Thank you in advance!

Well.. that's a lot of info... thank you very much...
ok now... the situation is as follows: i have Win XP SP2 and i didn't use the installer but the .zip version and i have it on my E:\ drive. At the beginning, before subscribing to this forum, i didn't know that the beta 2 version doesn't work with N++ 5.0.3. At your suggestion, i will search for the 1.2 final version of the function plugin. And regarding the problem that i had earlier that N++ didn't suggest the function name while typing, it is solved. For those who read this post -> when you start from scratch with editing a file, you have to save it first as .php or .html or whatever you want to edit and only then N++ makes the suggestions. You have also to go to Settings -> Preferences -> Backup/Auto-completion and check the Enable Auto-completion on each input.
Thank you again for all the help!!!

The autocomplete feature has to be enabled on Settings Menu -> Preferences... -> Backup/Autocomplete Tab
And you need the .api files on the APIs folder

Thank you very much for the reply... but... hmm... about the function plugin... what should i do now...? should i download an older version, or what...?!? Don't get me wrong, this is an incredible program... fast, powerful in editing and all but why are updates for...? And ok... i got the part with the APIs... i see there APIs for java, javascript, pascal, C and more but for ex. i can;t find the one for php witch is important for me at the moment...?
Again, thank you for the infos...!

This software is opensource... plugins arent always made by the same people that makes the software... if you pretend to wait for each plugin maker to get along the new version for releasing it, you will never get the new version up...
About the php, u can download it from the page too

As i understand, the API file is in .xml format... so they say on the page... and the combination to trigger it is CTRL+Space.. i have the php.xml in the plugin\APIs directory, but as i push CTRL+Space, nothing happens... i also activated the Autocomplete option as you said before ... ... ... ... ... any idea...? or for the version 5.0.3 the API files must be in .api format and not as .xml...?!?

Uhh... ok... one LAST question... could anyone please recomend me a NotePad++ version that supports the most plugins...? as i see, almost none of the plugins are working with the version 5.0.3... i don't mind if i have an older version as long as the plugins are working with it!
Thank you!

First: the Function List 2.0 is an alpha version. Try with version 1.2 final.
Then, I must say that it isn't true that this plugin doesn't work with 5.0.3. I've used 5.0.3 for 2 months without ever experiencing a problem. Then I moved to 5.1 beta (ANSI, not Unicode, because the Functions list plugin doesn't work otherwise) and now I'm using 5.1 RC (ANSI again, for the same reason). Everything works fine.
I can tell you that some friends of mine, in the past, have experienced problems with the self-installing version of N++, and the problem was that they couldn't get plugins to work. They solved by downloading the .ZIP file. Also, a different problem has happened to me: if you are using Windows Vista and you install it in the default C:\Program Files\ folder, for some strange security reason the folder that is created is a read only one, and there's no way to change it. That's why when you run N++ it always asks you if you want to open that file, even you tick the option "Don't ask me next time". It has to do with the User Account Control (UAC) feature. When this happened, I realized that no plugins were working. They were in the right folder, but it was like they didn't exist. Windows Explorer didn't even show them, even though I KNEW they were there.
So, my suggestions are:
1) Try with Functions List 1.2 final (but I don't think this will solve it)
2) Try downloading the zip file instead of the installer
3) If you are using Vista, try to install it in another folder (such as C:\Notepad++, which is the one I use), or to disable UAC, or both.
If you are using Vista, I think solution number 3 will solve your problem, and I suggest to try that one before trying the others.
Good luck! :-)
