WinXP SP2. From within jZip/WinZip/7zip (practically anything, now) right-click, open with, Notepad++, program crashes with the ever-informative Windows popup:
Notepad++ : a free (GNU) source code editor has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Version 4.8.2. I stopped using NP++ some time ago because of this error. I just re-installed it and, yep, same thing. I switched over to Programmer's Notepad 2 (which doesn't exhibit this error) but I *really* like NP++ better.
Things to check on my system??

Tested with 7z under vista : I can use "Edit" context menu command or DnD to Notepad++ w/o crash.
It seems this crash under xp due to the binary compiling under vista.
Any idea about it?

I'm having the same problem opening Notepad++ by any approach--'sorry problem encountered etc.' I started seeing this about a month ago using 4.7.2, upgraded to 4.8 with no change in the behavior.
WinXP SP2, 1Gb RAM, P4 machine.

Well, yeah, there's usually always a workaround. But it sucks that I can't look at a file directly from the archive with my favorite editor. Oh, well, I guess there's always trade-offs.
Thanks for the reply, gang.

Hmmmm...
Dragging from Windows Explorer: OK.
Dragging from jZip: crash.
Dragging from jZip File->Open dialogue: OK
Dragging from Eclipse: OK.
Perhaps the best way to avoid this problem is extract the file from the archive and then choose to edit it with Notepad++.
I believe there have been previous reports of (7)zip not functioning right.

Can you start Notepad++ at all, that is without any documents you choose to edit?
How about dragging files to an already opened Notepad++?
