Is there an option to enable fixed width characters?
I even tried Courier and Courier New and they both display e.g. spaces and i's
thinner than other characters.
Thanks for this nice editor.
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
Where are you changing it? Those fonts should be ok.
In Settings/Styler Configurator, it appears that there are several places it could be getting its font from. I'm guessing that you should first fix it in Language=Global Styles where Style=Default Style. That should apply anywhere that the font has been left blank.
I'm also guessing that this will be overridden if a style has been set for another language, if that applies to the file you're editing. So if the above doesn't work, you'll have to work out what's overriding it.
I am sure I tried everything. I cleared all fonts for the "php" style,
and set Courier at the global styles.
Even when I restarted the program the font was not showing as fixed-width.
Now it works OK. If I manage to reproduce it I will get of copy of stylers.xml (now that i know better).
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it.

The first entry at http://notepad-plus.wiki.sourceforge.net/FAQ discusses this.
